For those not in the top tier with 100's of thousands of page views (or millions) and thousands of clicks per day the rest of us should expect earnings to decline. How many adsense publishers do you think there are today v/s two years ago? The market is oversaturated with publishers which means advertisiers can pay less and we make less. Except for those nitch markets this is the new AdSense.
But the number of advertisers is growing too - online advertising has passed radio marketing in the U.S. and I read its even passed TV advertising in the U.K. as far as total dollars spent.
stackman cuts to the chase as usual, good post... we can't change google, so we must diversify our income sources.
I think it's gotten to the point where there are more publishers than advertisers, therefore less competition for a good places and therefore the advertisers can afford to lower their prices for the same number of conversions. At least I think that's what's happening...
I won't blame Google. There is increased competition for advertisements and all American manufacturers have now agreed to have a recession, -- which is to say they all agree there will be a recession so they're all cutting back. Which will cause a recession I've seen a 45% drop or so in revenues - despite increased viewers. Scary stuff since I live off this. I do use Kontera and Vibrant in small doses, but they don't bring a whole lot in. I also use AdsDAQ which is pretty nice but again, we're talking very small dollars. Then of course Amazon is still around and good for around $40/month. I'm not going to start bad-mouthing AdSense for this; they don't set the rates. CTR for me has remained the same, but eCPM is way down. It's gotta be the advertisers. I'm glad this discussion was taking place... I WAS getting a bit concerned. PS> I rely mainly on a single, large, popular, content-heavy site that's been around since long before AdSense, and have some small special-interest, content-heavy sites as well which tell me whether the problem is keyword specific... and it isn't.
im getting around 120 clicks a day and barely hitting $7-$8 bucks a day. I mean i know video games are a low paying niche, but damn.
same problem here. I have another site without adsense and is doing better. I'll be drooping adsense if this keeps up
actually advertising generally goes up in times of recession, it seems weird but in practice it makes a lot of sense, since customers have less disposable income and need to be sold on what they can or "need". So I would presume this would also mean that Adsense should remain stable, or actually increase - I think they've smartpriced a large amount of sites - or decreased cpc rates across the board perhaps to keep a greater share of what's paid from advertisers (remember Google's taking a commission).
Why is this recession happening then? Davert if you say there is increased competition for advertisements, wouldn't that mean that advertisers would pay more, to reflect the increase in competition? I thought the opposite is what is happening here.
