Adsense reports versus Statcounter reports

I checked my adsense reports yesterday and it shows 17 clicks on my ads for content but Statcounter shows 86 clicks on googleads as indicated by "exit click".

Is this because the majority of the users hit the back key or close out the window before the Google ad finish loading? I have the ad load on the same page. Should I have the ad load in a new window and maybe this will let more ads load? Would love to have a higher percentage of the 86 clicks.

I never knew this until I install statcounter yesterday. I was using Gostats prior to this.

FYI, I found the answer to my question in the adsense forum:

"Do you have link units on your site? If so statcounter will show the first click adsense doesn't in the overview report but will in the advanced report. Adsense doesn't pay for a click on a link unit, they only pay for a click on an adsense ad on the result page & those clicks on ads will also show in the overview report & advanced report."

I have problem tallying the page load impressions recently. My Adsense shows 3 times as many pageloads as statcounter.
This is the first time it happens. Most of the time, the statcounter and Adsense pageloads are quite near.
