Adsense question: CPM VS CPC

Hi, I'm new to AdSense publishing and am pleased to find your community. I hope to join in the community here. There is something I want to inquire about today, that I have been trying to understand since I began campaigning on March 1.

AdSense support pages say that CPM ads compete with CPC ads for placement on my pages. So right now it seems to me like that would be based on my CTR? What I don't understand is, can AdSense units on some pages be running CPC ads while others have been changed into CPM mode? And also, can the ads change between CPM and CPC throughout the course of the day? I haven't found any mention of these specifics of how CPM and CPC ads compete.

    I appreciate any welcome

    Brandon

A CPM ad is shown whenever the CPM paid is higher than the average CPM earned with CPC ads in that unit.
