Thinking of starting a blog related to database software & throwing on adsense. Wondering... 1) Is this a decent niche. Should I even expect to get any $ from it? Of course I'm assuming that I put on good and fresh content, etc. 2) What is normal per day amounts for everyone, and also if you reply, how long have you been going at it? I just want to be realistic about the $ and know what I'm getting into.
It depends on many factors (the amount of traffic u get-geographic traffic and the ads gonna showed on your site)

Just run a search will all the related keywords in the niche and get an estimate what is the search volume like and how much is the cpc. However, don't expect too much without traffic in the initial stages. All these take time.
It depends on your keyword selection. Looks like the keywords can be varied by narrowing down the types of database software. You need to do your homework here before jumping in. As long as you like it or have lot experience in it, it will be ok. You just need to be patient, do a little hard works, promotions... And I think you must not expect result too fast as your niche have tough competition already. For your second question, the "normal" per day amount is vary depending from many factors. For a site that have established one and have huge amount of traffics it can have from $x, $xx to $xxx I think.
If you provide useful information people will visit your website/blog and Google will pay you good amount based on clicks
