Hi, I am new to adsense. I was wondering if a charge is incurred for 1) having it deposited in your bank account. 2) having it converted to GBP £.

I don't want to lose any of my hard earned money along the way :p

I am a uk user and from past experience I have ended up with less than I expected in my bank account from US payments.

I was paid 600 USD (not for adsense) and by the time it was converted to GBP it was £286, meaning it lost quite a bit on the way.

How do other UK users get paid for their adsense and do you have a charge from your bank to convert USD to GBP

    thanks

You are paid in local currency - eg. the funds enter your account as GBP so there's no conversion rate.

I think currency conversion rates are charged by bank if you selected different currency in your country or on adsense account.

there are conflicting views here. does google pay you in GBP or in USD and the bank converts it with a charge?

    thanks

I think Google apply their own conversion rate and then pay in pounds. But that conversion rate will mean they make something on the deal. There is always one rate for selling currency and another rate for buying.

To say that there's no conversion rate for Adsense is just wrong. Our click income is shown in dollars, our account balance is shown in dollars, and at the moment of payment it is converted into pounds.

The only way you can avoid losing out on currency exchange that I am aware of is when you set up a dollar (or other currency) balance in your PayPal account, and someone pays you in dollars into that, and then you spend the money again in dollars and it never gets converted. But as soon as you want to withdraw it, PayPal will apply their exchange rate which works in their favour.

It's just part of the deal with working on the internet. If you earn a LOT of dollars, open a US bank account and let it mount up in there until the exchange rate seems to be in your favour.

thanks for the info. that is useful. I've only had an adsense account for less than a month. I've got my payments on hold so they build up because I thought my bank account might apply a fixed charge for each payment.

I get my payments directly in the bank in Euro. Since, as my username suggests, I live in Germany. However, the exchange rate is just one way the big "G" can earn a little commission back after transferring money to foreign banks (in probable fact, they are more than likely taking that money from their accounts in the various countries).

I have noticed that when I transfer money to and fro across international borders, the time it takes varies and I honestly believe that somewhere along the line, they are watching for the best exchange rate for them. Perhaps google do the same. The money is always there in Germany, in my case, and when the dollar-Euro rate works in their favour, they quickly transfer the money over so that they win. This could explain the varying date of each month when I finally receive my payments!! ;)

    Hi

I've been paid in various ways through Adsense, before they released different versions.

    Here you go:

    1. If you get paid a cheque in $US, then your bank/building society will charge you to put it into your account. Usually £5 charge for up to £100 and then $10 charge for over £100. (That's HSBC other's may vary).

    2. If you get your cheque in £ STERLING then there is no charge to put it into your account and you get every penny.

    3. Paid straight into your account - they convert the amount when they release payment from $ into £. This is true for cheques too.

Benefits - Paid straight into your account you'll get the money on or around the 27th-28th of the month. If you get a cheque sent then you'll have to wait until 10th-15th of the following month to receive it. It comes from Sweden.

    Hope that helps

    Tony

    thanks. thats quite helpful.

so will they pay you a cheque in £ sterling rather than $?

I am currently getting mine paid directly into my account. I'm not earning much each month at the moment so have put my payments on hold because I don't want to get charged £5 on every $60.

What do you find is the best way to do it after using diff methods?

    Hi

Yes, you can get your cheque sent in £ STERLING.

The best way is to have it paid directly into your account. You get it sooner and don't have to go to the bank to pay a cheque in!

but does having it paid directly into your bank have money taken off for the bank handling? Its still not clear to me.

    thanks

I'm pretty sure that it happens this way :
    - Google AdSense makes the bank transfer in USD (their currency)
    - the bank converts the dollars in your local currency
    - some banks have a fee (Powelly mentioned 5 pounds), some banks don't
    - anyway, the conversion rate is not very good. So, some money is lost.

It's surprising, but I think G does not make any money on this :)

Having it paid directly into your bank - you lose NO money.

You only pay £5 if you put a $USD cheque into your account.

Yes, exchange rates can be various depending on the bank.

    Hope that clears things up.

I would strongly recommend setting up Electronic Funds Transfer on your account - it can take a while for Google to confirm your account when you first set it up, but it's well worth it, less hassle, and the funds appear in your account much quicker as others have said.
