If the bank transfer went through a clearing house (which is common in currency conversions to overseas banks) the middle man might have taken that cut. Usually its in the senders terms which makes it a bit weird as Google would have gone direct.

Its more likely your bank actually took the cut (Or their foreign transfers go through a third party you agreed to when you opened your account)

Citibanks main offices are located in NYC but they have clearing houses all over the world. The fact that tour bank shows Citibank NY as the one taking the money doesn't mean it actually happened in NY.

Its quite common for large conversions to go through a middleman for proccessing and they take their cut.

I know when we wire money to the guy that does our graphics in Russia, he looses 20-30% of his money to fees for conversion, additional bank fees, etc. Seems like it is a common issue that earns foreign banks a nice lump of the money.

NO, our local bank is saying that CITIBANK N.Y has charged that amount. I have account in citibank India they are saying that they directly send these cheques to Citibank N.Y and N.Y branch charged the amount between (USD 120 to USD 150) from these cheques and send rest of the amount to Citibank India.

Its all the same bank though...The "NY Branch" is probably just their processing division for the whole world.

Your local branch should tell you this...How can they shrug their shoulders when its the same bank.

Its like going in and the teller saying John lodged your check and hes not in today so I can't help you

NO, it's NY branch. Because our local bank show me a proof (T.T copy) that NY branch is charging that amount.

It is probably the headquarters of international processing...The fact it is physically located in NY means absolutely nothing.

    Its still Citibank

You can request the Terms and Conditions sheet from either your local brach or the main customer supprt number for India.

Im not saying thats waht it definately is since I don't work for Citibank India but it is very possible as this kind of thing is so common.

Maybe before you were under the threshold or as you said, new rates on Jan 1st

Yaa, I have already seen Terms and Conditions sheet for citibank India. They have clearly wrote that they will charged nothing for "International Clearance Cheques"

Why should fight with local bank if "NY branch" charged me that amount and they already shown me a proof.

Should I ask google about that?

Looks like I have the same 'issue'!

Finally, after a year blogging I got to the magic $100 or whatever the payout treshold is...

Was just playing with accounting software for Mac, imported one of my online banking statements and low and behold, I had a 44 pennies worth of deposit from Google. 44 friggin' p!!! Surely, they haven't charged 99% of the total amount for banking fees?!!! I was fully aware UK banks are ripping us off while we're even looking but this is just shambles.
