I currently run a Entrepreneur / Make Money Online blog which gets abour 1,500 uniques per month.
Would you recommend using adsense to monetise it or private advertising?
its www.smarterwealth.net just so you can see the template and layout

You should go with adsense that can help you make few bucks, even more because your niche is fairly high paying. And also because no one will buy space on your site for such a small amount of traffic.

I would recommend both, put up the 3 adsense blocks and offer one or 2 private. if noone buys you haven't lost anything but if you dont try there is no chance.

Neither will make much money. 50 uniques per day is not a lot at all.

How much money do you think I could make on 50 uniques a day?
How much traffic do you need to make $100 per day?

If your CPM is $10, then you need 10,000 uniques/visitors per day to earn $100. If your CPM is $1 you need 100,000 uniques...

With $10 CPM 50 uniques will earn $0.50, with $1 CPM it will earn $0.05.

Well with just one adsense banner in the header of my site I have been earning about $3 CPM...but now I have installed 3 adsense blocks (header, inside content, footer) so I expect this will go up a little. So maybe $5 CPM if I am lucky.
So I will need 20,000 uniques per day to get $100 per day. That is a hell of a long way to go for me. But if I could make just $1 per day (200 Uniques per day) I would be happy for now and I think this is more achievable.
    What do you think?

Yes, 200 uniques per day is very achievable.

CPM usually refers to impressions not uniques - so perhaps your 20000 impressions will 'only' need 7-10,000 uniques. Still no mean feat.
Private advertisers will often be happy to advertise on low traffic sites - until (if) you tell them the ads/links will be 'nofollow' links (to follow google guidelines), when they tend to withdraw. Likewise purchasers of 'paid reviews, as advertised on your site.
Most people find adsense works better if you (a) don't have the border around the ads and (b) float the ad to the left instead of the right. But worry about traffic before worrying about that...

    Thanks for the tips
So what is the policy with google?
Do the ads have to be nofollow in order to combine them with google advertising?

    Google search, not Google adsense.

Google are happy for anyone to sell advertising and links and paid reviews...as long as the links are 'nofollow' ie don't pass PR or SERPS benefits.
But its nothing to do with google adsense ads, its because otherwise google say people are paying just to manipulate the SERPS (more links = higher placement in the search results)...which of course they are, which is why the 'link sales' section of the forum is so popular.
And it's why so many sites have had their toolbar pagerank taken away or reduced, when google think a site is selling links.
But if you advertise 'nofollow' links on a low traffic site you're not going to get much interest, so I'd stick with adsense, good articles, and attracting visitors for the time being.

I can say that both adsense and private ads are important. for example, on july i only used adsense and my income is $90 from adsense and after know this forum. i got private ads and that is a plus of $30, not as huge as adsense but still an additional income. hope this will help u understand.

Haha I WISH is was 1,500/day
That would be incredible. I would be rolling in cash...well not rolling
But i would be earning a lot more than I am right now.

Ok so I can provide dofollow links on my site and NOT be penalised by google adsense. Just possibly by google search?

why not use both? I'd use a few adsense adverts esepcially 200 x 300 which is the best source of revenue for adsense adverts and also some other affiliate programs with standard banners.

Nothing wrong with going for both. Frankly I think private ads in the long run are better - then if lets say you lose pagerank or something you still have some ad money coming in. Sure over time they will atch on and drop the ad, but I think many don't pay that close attention. And if you can lock in for a year in advance, then no worries. I sold two ads this last month with a year in advance. That was nice, although of course if that blog explodes he is getting a great deal.
