Adsense Onsite Advertiser Penalty?

I have been running Adsense a long time and doing very well with it. I had always allowed G to offer Onsite Advertiser to my visitors since it came into being. My stats have been very consistent through time. Yesterday I decided that my pages would look better without the Google Onsite Advertiser text, so I opted out with Google. Today the text is gone from the Adsense text ads but I am also experiencing an across the board drop by around 30% on eCPM and earnings. Anybody experience differences when opting in or opting out of G's Onsite Advertiser option?

Some have seen an increase in earnings, others have seen a decrease. It depends entirely on the site. There is no "penalty" assessed by Google.

Why should that be ? Are they going to decide if you want to offer onsite signups ?

my eCPM went up when I removed it but at the same time I made other changes on my site so it could have been co-incedental.

I am going to ride the current spike and see if it stays consistent for another week. If I see it flatline or get higher I will try re-introducing it for my site and I will let you know if it has decreased or increased.

I am going to give it a couple of days without to see if my earnings stay impacted. If so, I will then put them back on to see if the earnings return to where they were. If so, G and Adsense are penalizing or extorting their publishers into conformance to their wishes. I will let you know. (I don't think it is a conspiracy... if true... it is just a bunch of b.s.)

Not really you shhould really look at your CTR to determine that.

It may be that your users were clicking on different adverts, or it may be that they are loading lesser value ads on new content pages.

You really need to give it more time to assess the difference.

I have set myself a total of 2 weeks to assess it so this time next week I will be back to showing the link and see if it is better or not. I suspect on my site it will be worse though.

It is a long bow to draw to say Google is "exthorting" us. It would only be fair under proper analysis and we all know that any research requires a minimum of 1000 in its sample group so You will need to compare

1000 impressions or 1000 clicks to determine this, you will need to do this with the same controls i.e., page adverts, channels, colors etc.
