Adsense only sites ? Do they work ?

Sometimes I come across sites wich serve adsense ads ONLY.... These sites don't seem to have a content-theme at all!

My question is: Do these sites bring in any revenue at all ? They seem solely designed for users to click ads, but how are you going to get the interest of users without any content ? And how can you get a good SERP without any content ?

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing ?

Zero content is a TOS violation. Regardless if there are lots of clicks, they owner is unlikely to receive their cheque [check] but instead have their account closed. So in the end... zero revenue.

Getting a good SERP without content might be better asked here.

I've seen lots of websites like this too, when I search for something on google, many websites in the result just brin up adsense sites. Must surely be against TOS but I think there are too many websites doing this.

If the site has lots of traffic then it will work. Getting lots of traffic to a rubbish made for adsense site is very hard/impossible though unless you are spamming......

I have reported these sites in the past but not anymore because it doesn't help at all! The reason I reported them was that a lot of the sites were using scraped content from my site(s) and other sites and have sneaky redirects, weird domain names with thousands of numbered subdomains, and if that isn't a violation, then what is?
You would think that Google would be interested in removing these crappy sites from their index immediately but h**l no!! They might be making too much money from sites like these so they are actually violating their own TOS.
BTW, the only thing that actually happened when I reported these sites was that my site that was violated was removed from the index! Coincidence? Did they get backwards when I reported the sites? Not sure, but since then I am NOT reporting any sites anymore in fear of having my other sites removed also!!

The idea of no (or limited) content sites appeal to many AdSense newcomers, but in the long run it's no way to run a successful online business.

I've seen similar sites that just run something like rss2html and pull in random items for 'content'.

It's better to spend your time generating a quality site with good content, and that's been said a million times over on DP.

There are various ways of looking at this

You can buy 300 Adsense ready sites for about $200. Some often do actually have pretty good content. HOWEVER this is usually scraped so there are moral issues involved as MikeSwede and I have discussed in another thread.

They are unlikely to ever get a serp or PR in Google because if the duplication issues.

That said they can be promoted in other ways than search engines. Even if you only got $1 a month per site that would be your money back in around 1 month (including purchase and hosting fees).

Personally I hate the things, but its easy to see why people use them. I think we need to learn to live with them because unless Google changes it rules they are probably here to stay. Even if google changes the rules the providers will mutate with them. The good news is that 20 original content sites with good traffic and SERP will always yield more. Lets face it if you get less than $1 a month you might as well take your adsense OFF and try something else
