Adsense on photoalbum site

    Hi Guys,

I recently added the possibility for my members to create a photoalbum on their profile.
When they are viewing the images, the adsense is showed on top of the images with previous/next on both sides of the images.

    -----ADSENSE------
    PREV | | NEXT

After checking the adsense channel, i noticed that the CTR is terrible: ~0.1 - 0,3%!

Does anybody have some ideas about how to increase the CTR?

Might be because the ads being poorly targeted, due to lack of text on the page. Are these just photographs or are there captions/notes too?

The ads are reasonably well targeted, so that isn't problem. Below the image are some captions yes.

    Kids:
You are not allowed to place tiny images next to the google ads, because it will create a (non-existant) connection between them. However you are allowed to place ads on pages with images.

Well, I am not surprised because there is no content to determine the type of aads to display. Also, I suppose it will always be a niche that generates low CTR.

Maybe ask for a description of the image when they try to upload it?

Whenever I look at the site, relevant ads are shown. So probably the problem is that the visitors just do not notice the ads.

How can I increase the visibility of the ads?

Maybe the ads are just not inticing.

    or

maybe your traffic is not targetted to be users that want to see your type of content?

I use gallery2 as photo album software in my own photo gallery and get about 20x higher CTR
but I also use different layout and ad formats
besides that - the photo CTR / eCPM always has been lower than average

in gallery2 all photos have caption + short descritpion + long description

    I see u use
    google_ad_type = 'image';
imge ads ONLY - a restriction to image ads removes ALL text bidding competition - thats the cheapest trick to get ads online since only a few have image ads only.
by redcucing the competition to image ads advertisers you may get the lowest eCPM you ever can dream of

I recommend FREE competition of all - text and image ads
I made same mistake myself in early adsense times until I realized what I have done to all competition

    Hi Hans,

    Thanx for your input!
I'm not sure if I want to use the same ads layout as you do. I guess the large ad on top has the best CTR? ;)

the site-wide adsense ad-layout is the result of my own intense tests and research - tests during hundreds of hours of monitoring and adsense optimization.

my site-wide average of all channels and my very mixed topics, i am clearly in a 2-digit ctr and ecpm as well
the large rect ATF has the very highest eCPM of all formats as well as the highest ctr and ist paying much more than its smaller 300x250 partner at same placement.

if you ( me ) have the choice of getting 2k$ a months or 3.4k$/m just by means of adsense layout/placement and format optimization ...
what would YOU chose - your personal layout or the most efficient highest paying one ??
before i had my own ( lazy ) layout - now - after some 400 hrs of testing and improving - I prefer the most efficient one :) - I love to have fun - fun sometimes costs sold $ - I just returned yesterday from a 14 day photo journey bringing back some 3000+ photos into remote Banaue rice terraces incl rental taxi and driver ... thanks to my G adsense optimization.

the choice is yours - its sometimes hard to belief that some people still belief a 2-3 % ctr is perfect and all that is possible using cleanest methods.
