Has anyone had success with it, especially with a music niche?

I am making so little from the forum I am thinking of ditching the adsense from the site just to make it more clean looking.

    Discuss.

The CTR for forums is too low. You need a lot of traffic to earn some money from adsense.

I am not even getting the clicks. The ads seem to be poor quality search engine style ads. I think its because the adsense unit is on the main page and there isn't a lot of text it can choose the content from.

Do people tend to put a lot of keywords on their main page if they have a unit on there?

I would find some affiliate programs with products related to topic. You can make more per sale than adsense

it is really very hard for forums to make money, try to change the ads position, color, and style often.

Hide adsense from your members and leave it only for guests. Your members are ad blinded and will rarely click on them while guests(uniques) might find something on their interest and there is a high chance that they will click.

Your members also hurt your eCPM as well, because they open so many pages and never click on ads..

And yes we get more that 3% CTR on our 1500+ member forum.

You should try ads within posts and disallow it for members cause it will probably annoy them. Let me say though, that forums on average got a very poor visit time and you need lot of traffic to earn a signifcant revenue from low paying ads on forums.

I never use Adsense! in forums but experienced several times that it wont pay much higher than other sites do! plus it also seems to risky at time thats why i dont prefer you to choose Adsense for Message Boards and Forums
