Adsense On image hosting site..

I am thinking of a website to host images for free. I want to ask some questions :

    1) Do google allow such site for adsense?
    2) Is there any chance that I can generate that much revenue that I can get the cost of my server?
    3) Atlast is it worth for adsense?

    Regards

    I think it`s allowed
I wanted to start this kind of website too, and after my calculations, it doesn`t generate revenue so you can pay the servers.
If you ask me, it only workd in exceptional cases

I think its allowed for AdSense too.

I doubt youll be able to make that much money out of it though as there are many excellent image hosting sites out there already.

Youll need to come up with some great marketing strategy I think to be successful!

Good luck though!!! Tell us of your progress! :D

Yep - you need to somehow outdo imageshack... Provide a variation to the service which makes your site better than imageshack.

Do some brainstorming before even starting to write the script and you may do well :)

Yes they allow it, I am using Adsense on the same nature of site.
You should have some other money making sites, to backup in the start, these kind of sites get very low CTR so will take time to get the break even. lots of advertising required.
    What do you mean??

You are wrong, there are 100s of sites providing the same service including my own, this is a very expensive and competitive field, first evalute your position if you can run the site for 6 months without getting to break even, and bare the cost(Trust me the cost involved in such sites are very very high), just one or two images, hosted on your server, from myspace can burn 10GB bandwidth in just a few days. plus there are people who take the advantage of uploading to hack your site (so dont go and use Prozilla script..).

i agree, I run an image hosting site. I make decent money off adsense for the little amount of time/effort i am putting into advertising. I offer a lot of space for a really good price, thats one advantage i have. 25GB Storage/25GB Bandwidth each month for 4$. Its hard to beat a price like that. Also, when you send someone a link to your image, its only the image, no ads, another plus :)

IMO adsense is worth it even if you only make enough to cover your hosting. Think about it like this... If you make 5$ a day, thats your lunch paid for each day. Thats a lot less money you have to take out of your check to buy lunch. Free lunch for hungry people i guess.

i think you should drop the idea of starting image hosting site, they won't pay you.

    1. There are almost 100,000 sites giving image hosting.

    2. You can't challenge imageshack, photobucket and flickr

    3. It will take lot of time to be monitored, as many people will try to upload porn images and copyrighted stuff

4.Most people don't add any tittle or description to images so adsense will not show quality ads

    5. A very low CTR for such sites

6.You will need lots of server resources

yeah i agree, image hosting sites suck up a lot of bandwidth and cpu resources, got to get a relatively powerful server for extreme image hotlinking.

image hosting sites could consume huge amounts of bandwidth as anyone could hotlink and use it to redistribute those images in their sites. just like photobucket.

i have one music codes site that consumes around 90-100GB's/day. i was forced to get an unmetered dedicated server with 50mbps dedicated line. very expensive, around $600/month. even with this server sometimes need to be rebooted often during peak hours. btw, the music files are only 300-500kb each. i posted this example to give an example since i got no image hosting site. :)

you've gotta have a lot of traffic to generate enough revenue from ads to pay for your server.

    just my 2 cents. :D

Sites like ImageShack and photobucket can be easily taken over in terms of publicity, if you can do the following:

    * Allow unlimited direct linking (which neither do).
    * Provide several tools like Toolbar, Windows uploader (via regex) and such services.
    * You need to have reliable uptime guarantee and unlimited resources (Bandwidth+Space).

In the beginning you will lose money, but then with time you will regain that money.

There are many image hosting services out there, but all of them do not provider off-site services.

    Peace,

Also, one way to beat imageshack and photobucket right out of the water is to support hosting for LEGAL adult images. but then that rules out adsense on the image pages.

Use adbrite, or develop your own ad network to put on the image pages (with adult images).

check out fapomatic.com, they force thumbnail views only and force ads on fullsize image viewing. Just a thought.

    greep rep is appreciated :)
