Adsense on Forums - Do you make enough?

Discussion in 'Reporting & Stats' started by contactsonia, Aug 14, 2006.

I run a Webmaster Discussion Forum and I have been using AdSense there for about an year now. But I hardly make anything using AdSense though I have 1300+ members and about 400 unique visitors/day.

Do you make enough with AdSense on Forums

I would recommend using adsense :)
You can earn at least $10 with this traffic. :)

it pays my hosting, but that's about it. This is on 2 forums with a combined 20,000 member userbase, and well over 4,000 uniques a day. Forums don't make much money.

    Thanks for your replies.

With the stats I mentioned above + forums are over 1 and half year old now... I make only $5-$7/mo only :( I don't think it is enough considering all the hard work that I have done.

Even forum will vary in earning depending on the subject. What is your forum on?

you need to experiment *where* you place the ads

try the following (not all, mix em up)

    - after first post of each thread
    - after last post
    - within the first/ last post per page
    - log out of your account and see what DP does for visitors

    test-test-test

Find otherways to monetize forum traffic.

Paid upgrades/memberships, even forum poker tourneyments where you can get dozens of members to sign up to an online poker site with your affiliate link...

    I run Webmaster Discussion Forums.
I wish I could have selected a different topic or better a whole site instead of just forums :(

With a forum I'd guess you'll make maybe $3 or $5 a day with 400 uniques. Are the ads blending in? Are they at the top of the page or between posts?

Most importantly - what audience does this target? If it targets people who might be web savvy...they probably already know about adsense and are blind to it.

This is one problem that Google needs to fix... adding new features for those of us who are trained to ignore adsense.

That's your problem right there. Every tech related site I have with adsense on it does horribly.

You're better off targeting an audience such as stupid Mom's who knit and are on AOL.

other way, you must post a new topic in your forum and talk to your member that they will help you much if they click to the adsense once a day. And i think you can pay your hosting fee with its profit.

Good way to get banned by Google. Easier way is to pick a different subject.

You can sell advertising on your own, which should be more then what you get from google, maybe allow sponsorship of topics on forums, sell links, run your own ad software. Just a few suggestions.

I think you should consider forum members upgrades/paid memberships to monetize your traffic
