Im currently a lead developer at a popular online ecommerce store and the owner has suggested putting adsense on the product pages, although this will show competitor ads, granted these can be filtered out but then irrelevant ads will be shown. So what are you suggestions about showing adsense ads on a popular ecommerce site? spdev
To me it seems like there's little point in placing ads. Take a look at reputable eCommerce websites, and you'll find that none of them have ads pointing to external websites (usually if they have ads it is promoting another of their own products), unless it's an ad for something they sell. The goal of the website should be to encourage visitors to become customers, which is best done when you don't have extraneous advertisements all over the place. Additionally, even if you're very vigilant in blocking ads, it's inevitable that some competitor ads will get through, and losing even one sale will probably negate more than a month's worth of ad revenue (obviously depending on the niche of the site).
