I've been going back and forth on this question. As you all well know, you can only have 3 AdSense blocks on a page (plus one text ad block). I currently have my blog set up to display 5 entries. I have the blog template set up to display AdSense at the bottom of each post. The problem with this is after the second post, no more AdSense. I switched it over to display only 2 posts for a while, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. If the home page of the site has more content, that's probably a good thing. Plus if someone actually gets through reading two posts without getting bored, they may read on if more entries are sitting right there, whereas if there are just links to more posts, they might be tempted to click off somewhere else. http://tivo-tv.blogspot.com Any thoughts on this? 5 posts on the home page or 2?
Actually, I've had good results with less. Google will optimize the ads based on how many blocks you have. But you're thinking - wow, if I have more ads displayed, chances are better that people will see them and click on them. Most of the time when you hit the limit your page begins to look like one big ad, rather than some great content (read: value). I would keep the posts to 5 (because people hate digging for info if they don't have to), and keep your your AdSense to two or three blocks. Kind regards, Dave Jackson
Check out my blog and see the ads placement. Its getting quite a hits. Placing the ads strategically would help out. But yea...put limited amount of ads on the blog. Keep it nice and readable . Blend the ads and you will get the results.
Thanks for the input. I think I'll leave it showing 5 posts for the time being. What do you think of the blog as it stands now? Too many ads? Should I move them? Any thoughts? Thanks, Gary
I just started a new blog and only have the 468 x 100 or something ad and the small 160x100 link box... Will see how it goes next few weeks, hopefully traffic will rise to about 100 uniques a day beginning of november...
I think somewhere in the middle, toward the top is theoretically ideal. If you're using Blogger.com, I don't think you can do that, unfortunately. There may be some sort of javascript trick, but I didn't want to figure that out. I just fired up a brand new blog with WordPress. I'm trying Chitika ads. So far the CPC has been pretty good (though no clicks yet on the new blog). Playstation News Cheers, Gary
