Anyone tried this extention on firefox? - https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=500 It's supposed to display your adsense earnings on the statusbar in firefox.
Looks good but i dont wanna test it, not sure how secure it is, anyway ot only takes 1min to login normally and check
Probably right to be cautious. I went to the homepage of the author http://code.mincus.com/ and was alerted that Firefox had prevented site from automantically downloading something. Not sure what that means, but I didn't like it. Changed Adsense pw and took off add-in for now. Will do more looking into...it is a cool idea, though.
Most of the links on his page are to .xpi files, if his sites not in your trusted list it won't install the firefox .xpi extension file automatically. I don't see what is suspicious about that.
Hey guys thanks for your interest in my Firefox Extension, Adsense Notifier. It’s smart to be weary of the random extensions and programs that you install on your computer. I just wanted to point a couple of things out quickly. Any Firefox extension or for that matter program you install on your computer _could_ have the capability of stealing passwords etc from you. That is why it is so important to make sure that you trust the person who created the program. The warning you received at my site is simply Firefox protecting you from people force installing XPI files (Firefox extensions). It makes sure that you are fully aware that you are downloading an extension. Lastly, the really cool thing about most Firefox extensions is that they are open source and fully viewable by anyone. If you wanted to, you could rename my extension from .XPI to .ZIP and look through the whole thing to see how it works (and you can do the same for the source code in it, rename the .JAR file to .ZIP)! Hope that clears some things up, cheers! --mincus
To anyone interested I looked over the code and it appears clean (for whatever my opinion is worth), the only host it appears to make contact with is www.google.com. I did notice though that the logins appear to be done over plain text http, and not through ssl. But, maybe I missed something.
Thanks for the clarifications and the post, mincus and nullbit. Your quick and forthright response reflects positively on you and your script, mincus (IMHO).
I looked through the code as well. The text issue concerns me, but when you try this thing out, it is fantastic. Give it a try...
OK... that's just plain cool. I look down at my task bar and I can see myself making money. And it's free. I've seen some desktop utilities that go for $20+, but I never wanted to spend the money. Now I'm all happy. Thank you.
I have not found a better plug in to date. Some of us were in the double digits for checking per day, now we don't have to. It would be nice to have it be secure...
It would be nice if it was secure; but, truth be told, this is a treat and it means I can focus on actually making money rather than how much I've made...Damned PSAs....Grrrr.
Just a quick update on the Notifier. Thanks to the requests from people in this forum I have updated Adsense Notifier (version 0.4) to not send the username and password as plaintext. The notifier now uses HTTP POST over HTTPS which should keep your username and password hidden. Glad to hear that you guys have found it so useful and please don't hesistate to let me know of any other features that you are looking for. cheers --mincus
It installed just fine for me and it is sitting at the bottom of my screen doing nothing! I don´t mean it is broken. Even if I go to Adsense itself, nothing is happening. How depressing!
