What is the Ad Review Center?

The Ad Review Center is a new publisher tool that enables you to review placement-targeted ads that may appear on your pages. The Ad Review Center provides publishers with more transparency and control over placement-targeted ads appearing on their sites. You can allow or block individual ad groups and advertisers, as well as filter ads by type: text or image.

If you choose to block ads in the Ad Review Center, you'll need to provide your reason for blocking the ad group or advertiser. This feedback, which we provide to advertisers, gives the advertisers more insight on how to adjust their ad quality, content, and relevance in order to appear on more sites.

Learn more about opting in to the Ad Review Center, the ad review options available to you, and how decisions you make in the Ad Review Center can have a revenue impact for you.

How do I opt in to the Ad Review Center?

To enable the Ad Review Center, follow these steps:

Sign in to your AdSense account.
Under the AdSense Setup tab, visit the Competitive Ad Filter page.
On that page, you'll see a green notification box. Click the Ad Review Center link.
Read through the information about using the Ad Review Center, and continue if you're ready to start using the feature. Once you've opted in, you'll see the Ad Review Center page appear permanently as a link under your AdSense Setup tab.

The Ad Review Center is automatically set to allow all placement-targeted ads to run on your site. If you'd like to manually review all ads placement-targeted to your site, you may do so by clicking the update settings link toward the top of the page. Before doing so, you may wish to learn more about manually reviewing ads.

Please note that when you first opt into the Ad Review Center, you will only see ads targeted to your site since opting in. You should see previously targeted ads in the allowed bin over the next day or two.

How will the Ad Review Center impact my revenue?

Opting in to the Ad Review Center alone won't impact your revenue. However, the choices you make about ad reviewing and blocking may have a negative effect on your revenue.

Blocking ad groups may have a negative revenue impact because ads that are blocked won't compete in the auction on your site, and therefore won't drive up potential earnings for that ad space. Also, advertisers whose ads you block may choose not to target your site again in the future.

In addition, waiting to review ads by choosing the "manually review" setting may decrease your revenue. This is because ads that are awaiting review won't participate in the auction either. Please consider the potential revenue impact before choosing manual review instead of auto-allow.

What's the difference between 'auto-allow' and 'manually review' ads?

When you first opt in to the Ad Review Center, your setting will be defaulted to auto-allow, which means that all new ads that are placement-targeted to your site will be allowed to run automatically. Even when ads are already appearing on your pages, you can review them and take action by visiting the Allowed tab in the Ad Review Center later. You'll still be able to block individual ad groups or advertisers on this page if you choose.

The alternative to auto-allow is manual review. When you choose manual review, you'll have 24 hours to take action on new ads before they are automatically allowed to run on your sites.

Before you choose to manually review ads, keep in mind that doing so may have a negative revenue impact. Ads that are awaiting review won't compete in the auction on your site, and therefore won't drive up potential earnings on your site. Please consider the potential revenue impact before choosing manual review instead of auto-allow.
