AdSense Makes No Sense

    I dislike adsense.
I've been trying to figure it out, and I just don't understand it! My friend and I run identical websites, traffic coming from the same EXACT sources, the same search engines, the same damn keywords, were nearly ranked right next to each other on search engines. He roughly gets about 7500 clicks a day making $1500/day!!! I get about 3500 clicks a day not even making $200!!! If this so called Smart Pricing is in effect? Explain this, his site is total crap, no design, and the ads look horrid on his site! He gets about 70k uniques I believe... I get about 35k uniques a day, so if you notice, were about 50% apart!!! We show practically the same ads as well!

I switched to Yahoo, now I am making thousands a day!!! I tryed Chitika.com, I am making thousands a day!!! What is with AdSense giving me .01 - .05 cents a click!!!! Thanks :)

Thousands a day? Wow! That's great! What kind of site do you have to do that with?

On a small side note, can you run Google AdSense and Yahoo Ads on the same pages on your site?

I run an html/css/support website, no you cannot have both ad networks on the same PAGE as I hear, but you can have google ads on page 1, and yahoo ads on page 2.

Okay. All my pages have AdSense right now, but I may take it off a couple side pages and put yahoo on those(if I get into beta). Does anyone see any problems with this idea, and are there any precautions (like telling them) I have to take? lol

    Thanks...

You and your friend run identical sites? You mean you have identical content?

Basically yes, I have more content, but basically identical content. Identical ads, and same traffic source.

The bigger question, in my mind, is why you and your friend have identical websites.

So his site has no design, and yours does?
There may be something about your site 's design that was discouraging clicks.

There is a school of thought that a lower CTR will earn you a lower CPM.

If you are doing better with other ad sources, ditch Adsense. However, many people speculate that after Beta ends YPN will be giving lower payouts. But there's no problem with changing back and forth and back and forth.

Maybe your friends site is regarded as original content and your site as the duplicator and that's why you might get lower revenue by usage of smart pricing.

Correct me if i am wrong here guys but isn't it true that duplicate content and therefor regarded as non-original can result in smart pricing?

    Just a thought.

If i was you i would stick YPN ads immediately on your site because you are loosing valuable money at this moment.

The reason for identical content is, we both have the same interest, the content is not copy and pasted, I mean we write our own words... I have a lot more content, a much more professional design, but it seems, who knows, .... Smart Pricing... I guess I'll just stick to Yahoo, I mean no doubt I was happy with $200/day, and now going to thousands... It's just I like a backup, and I wanted it to be good as his, oh well... Thanks!

This is my first post here though I've used the digitalpoint keyword and backlink tracker for quite awhile so hi all.

I like adsense though I agree the "smart pricing" makes no sense whatsoever. I tried yahoo for awhile (still use it on some pages) and found it much more unpredictable. One day I would have twice as many clicks as the day before but make half the income then the next day I would have half as many clicks and have 3 times the income. Sometimes it was more than I was making with adsense and sometimes less.

I basically gave up on yahoo for the most part because while smart pricing does result in some differences month to month my daily income rarely fluctuates more than 10% one way or the other, yahoo was all over the charts.

Ahh I see, well it seems as I should just stick to one or the other for now, as there is no way in "fixing" Google... Pfft! Lol.

What I love about Yahoo, is I can call them anytime, you can NEVER call AdSense, and have I tryed ;)

That's most likely the reason. You can't show Adsense Ads from two different accounts on the same page. Seeing as your webhost already displays ads on your site that would be a violation.

Without seeing your site it's hard to say what other reasons could be.

I agree that part of the problem is Adsense, but I would also wager that you have fallen victim to "ugly site syndrome". It seems like ugly sites get more click-thrus than nice sites. Maybe visitors are so aghast that they click on the ads, which are the only professional looking thing on the site. Nice sites would tend to make a visitor want to stick around and read the articles.
