Adsense is trying something new. Using image & text ads in 120x600 banners

    Hi,

I have just gone to my site and noticed that in my 120x600 banner there were surpose to be 4 text ads, but instead there was 3 text ads and 1 image ad right up the top with no information included with the image at all.

Is this something new that they are trying. It would be nice if they would let us know first before doing things like this as when they try new things out on the ads that are already running on our site then they could be doing something that we are dead against. For example, I have these 120x600 ad units on my site where I have selected the only text version as I don't want image ads. So why are they showing an image ad.

Sorry about moaning. That's all I seem to be doing this lately.

Prefer text ads to image ads.

I'd really like to see what that looks like and if it works for my site - why not?
But john269 is right, if he selected text-only ads, there should be no images in the ads.

There is another tread start in the Adsense forums where someone has actually taken a screenshot of it. The image in the ad is not the same as the one that I saw on my site though. My one was more colorful.

I think Google try to check new forum ad units. Google always develop their service. Google start play on video ad unit.

I've noticed that Google's experiment on my website too. Here is the screenshot:

I actualy don't like this, especially if occurs on random and you have no control what the pictures will be shown. On other hand, it could work great on text rich pages, so I think it should be just an opinion, same way you can disable/enable image ads.

I agree, they should have it as an option.

How I see it is some people really are picky about their sites design and have to make things look just right.

For example, they have a nice iaged header on their site and some text with the Adsense ads optimized into their site just right and then all of a sudden there is this image on top of one of the Adsense ads that look as if it shouldn't even be in that location of the site.

It could spoil some people's sites design.

It should be an option, but anyway, I hope it works and stays as the more options we have the better.

seems not bad idea about new ads.. do you get it automatically or you have to create a new add from options?

    Thanx

It is coming up automatically on everybodies sites even if you have not got image ads enabled. They are coming up in the text only ads units.

So if you don't want image ads on your site then you will still receive these new type of ads.
