Oh boy...here we go again... a major drop in adsense compared to previous days/weeks with no explanation as to why.

Dear Google... can you please provide us more data on why we make more money than we do on other days? Especially when you have an increase in traffic. Why so secretive, google? I'm forever baffled by Adsense...

I noticed a big drop last week and then back to normal this week. Somedays, I think Google has PMS....

Your probably being smartpriced - which most likely means over the last couple of weeks your account hasn't been achieving a good ROI for Google's AdWord advertisers therefore you don't deserve to get paid the good $$$.

Yeah, I've heard of this so called "smart pricing" thing... pretty lame if you ask me. If you are targeted... is it permanent?

I'm really getting tired of google and would love to figure out a way to get rid of them completely and not have to live under their unpredictable behavior. But, I guess I can just dream on... hah

If you see a drop, it probably is smartpricing. Unfortunately google wont give you guidance RE smartpricing.

    Things to consider...

    - Quality of traffic (us vs. non)
    - # of advertisers for your keywords (there are tools to find this)
    - have you changed your landing pages where ads are?

I have also suffered from this starnge phenomenon of lowered earnings with increasing traffic. I am seriously thinking of dumping these stingy characters. Seriously, I have adsense on sites that get some 14,000 unique visitors a day (give or take) and am making a mere pittance. Something is NOT right. Mat switch completely to YP

If you are being smart priced basically it means that your clickthrough aren't converting to actions at the advertisers' end so basically Google goes, OK then we won't pay you as much because advertisers get angry when you send them poor quality clicks.

To improve your EPC you should basically consider what sort of ads are my pages displaying and with those ads what sort of content should I have so that when my visitors do click those ads they are more likely to buy.

So as mentioned above things like quality of traffic matter. If you site is showing ads about "buying cheap nike shoes" are the people getting to your site being feed to your site under the impression they will be getting something different maybe they are just looking for information about nike in general - well these clicks aren't exactly going to convert extremely well. Where as is they are coming from a search engine via the term "buying nike shoes" or "cheap nike shoes" you may find they convert very well and you deserve to get the higher EPC for the visitors you are sending.

Also I think what seems to be a somewhat crazy trend these day is the old optimize and blend the crap out of AdSense ads to the point where people genuinely think they are going somewhere else other than some shop front or similar site expect to convert them into leads or sales. People need to expect that if they go out and apply all the latest and greatest CTR improving techniques that this won't necessarily correspond into increased sales for advertisers and there for to a degree you are going to find that your clicks may be reduced in value with smart pricing. That said I generally think for a publisher increases in earnings as a result of increasing CTR is never completely negated by smart pricing, which means that if you triple your CTR which triples your earnings you might find that there will be a halving in the value of your clicks that will come as a result of smart pricing, but this is still an overall gain.

When I made a mesothelioma site, I used to think that $0.50 was a small amount/click!

What tools are there to see how many advertisers there are for your keyword?
