Adsense Impressions Seem too Low

Discussion in 'Reporting & Stats' started by jhmattern, Jul 13, 2006.

The impressions registered in my Adsense reports are significantly smaller than the pageviews in my stats programs. For instance, I have my adsense account across several sites. I've had several thousand pageviews yesterday across the sites, and it only registered about 100 impressions in Adsense. What's the reason for this? Am I likely doing something wrong?

    Thanks!

Do you mean just for today, or consistently.

It's been pretty consistently lower than in my stats (for most I use Analytics). It just seemed a little more drastic today, so I'm slightly concerned if there's something else I need to be doing.

Historically speaking, I find that only about 78% to 85% of page views result in AdSense impressions once I have excluded bots, crawlers and other automated processes. The reason for this lower impression rate is that not everyone supports JavaScript, sometimes pages don't load correctly and 5% -10% of users block advertising.

If your impression ration is lower than what I stated here, you might need to update the robots definitions for your stats programs. There are hundreds of automated crawlers out there that can really muck with your stats and make you think that you are getting more page views by humans than you really are.

Actually, I already have that taken care of as far as stats go. For my sites through one network for example, there are stats built in that don't filter them out. That's why I use Analytics additionally just so I can have more control over it. So I don't think that's the problem unfortunately. And it's certainly a much smaller percentage registering as impressions that what you mentioned.

I emailed Google about it and they said the same, bots etc probably generated those impressions, but I also check with Analytics and other stats programs and it SEEMS that not only Googles index are screwed up, that the reporting of impressions is not really wroking either :(
Maybe we are just paranoid and not see what we thing we see....
