Is there anything to show that putting adsense on a website would actually help a websites PR? I have heard of this but not sure if it's true.

Why would OBL's help your PR? It would leak at most but I doubt those ads transfer PR since they go via 'complicated' redirects.

I agree, adsense offers no PR value to your site. The redirects take care of that and besides google would have thought of something that simple as a way of boosting PR

If it did pass PR to the advertiser (definitely not the publisher) it would be the ultimate organised 'voting scam' where you can buy votes by buying AdWords.

If the adsense was very well targetted, then googlebot may decide he likes the site as you've got good quality outbound links to relevant sites - I've got no proof of this though.
I can't see that it would help your PR any though.

The Adsense can't be spidered (It's JS) so it wouldn't even consider how targetted the ads are.

outgoing links don't play a factor with PR, only inbound, so the ads you display wouldn't make a difference in the least as far as PR is concerned.

I thought that outgoing links is a factor in PR calculation, althought inbound is the major factor.

Did G send you a letter and forget the rest of us? :)

Last time I checked, this is widely debated.

Ummm...well let me use a bit of common sense then. If OUTBOUND links from my site increased my PR, then all anyone would need to do is link to PR10 sites to raise their PR.

I've never seen any viable debate on the topic of OUTBOUND links affecting PR, only INBOUND ones, and that debate has focused mostly around the relevancy of the links. Show me otherwise and i'm glad to rework my opinion on the matter.

Ashiezai and AfterHim confuse their pages' rankings in the SERPs with their Google PageRank (green bar) for those pages. Or at least the terminology.

Wendy is spot on. And PR has little to do with your rankings btw.

Green bar PR can not be increased with OBLs. Only decreased.

SERPs ranking for a given phrase can be improved with OBLs. Also ruined with the wrong OBLs.

Now start singing from the same sheet please!
