Will one single block of adsense on a page act as an efficient unique visitor counter? does it count as an impression even if someone is using ad blocking? (seeing as the script was called for by the page before getting blocked by the software) TIA....
I dont think is a good way to track, because its totally depends from adsense server when display an ad
As far as I know the "page impressions" are counted every time somebody visits a site...not just whenever there is a "unique" visitor. So, it may be a way to track the number of times a site is viewed (as long as the adsense server is running) but not really a way to track "unique visits". You'd also miss out on counting anyone that has disabled the functions needed to display the adds.
I have a blog where I use AdSense as a counter and it works fine. The information what I get is enough to my needs - just like to know if there is any visitors. Actually, on that very specific blog I don't have any commercial interest, even it's very popular. But because hte subject of this blog is more or less human life's misery, I don't expect any success with the AdSense.
So if i just had a single little discreet square on the homepage it should work quite well, assuming most people landing on the site will do so thru the homepage... I just realised I could use channels to track visitors to individual pages too.
