Adsense for search OR Custom search engine?

    Hi guys,

    Can somebody tell me what's the difference?

    When I created a CSE and I linked to Adsense account a Adsense for search was created automatically. If I created an Adsense for search a custom engine has been created automatically.

    My adsense for search stays inactive in adsense control panel but I got money from adsense for search.
    I'm really confused. How I get money if it's inactive?

    On the other hand, on CSE this search engine created by Adsense is not linked to my Adsense account. Only the CSE that I created and manually linked to adsense have the Make money link in their control panel.

    Thanks in advance.

    For people like me that don't know:

    What is AdSense for search?

    AdSense for search is a free solution that allows publishers to place a search box on their site and earn revenue from relevant ads on the search results page.

    AdSense for search offers you the following:

    * choosing the content your users search: your site, a collection of sites you choose, or the entire web. You can also prioritize and restrict search to specific sections of sites.
    * customization of look and feel - you choose the colors, location of the ads, and the option to host the results on your site or have Google host them for you.
    * monetization of search results pages with targeted ads.

    If you're an existing AdSense publisher, you can easily add AdSense for search to your site. If you're new to AdSense, just complete our quick online application.

    What is the Custom Search Engine?

    The Custom Search Engine is the platform that powers AdSense for search. Both products allow publishers to create a search engine for their site and earn revenue from the ads on the search results page. However, Custom Search Engine offers additional advanced features. Learn more about how CSE differs from AdSense for search.

    If you already have an existing AdSense account, we recommend that you create all your search engines in AdSense for search and only go to the CSE page to access advanced features.

    If you have existing CSEs that you would like to monetize, you'll need to link your existing CSEs to AdSense.

    What's the difference between AdSense for search and Custom Search Engine?

    The Custom Search Engine (CSE) is the platform that powers AdSense for search. Both products allow publishers to create a search engine for their site and earn revenue from the ads on the search results page, however CSE offers additional advanced features.

    AdSense for search and the Custom Search Engine both offer you the following:

    * choosing the content your users search: enable users to search your site, a collection of sites you choose, or the entire web. You can also prioritize and restrict search to specific sections of sites.
    * customization of look and feel: you choose the colors, location of the ads, and the option to host the results on your site or have Google host them for you.
    * monetization of search results pages with targeted ads

    With CSE, you also get the following advanced features that can be accessed after creating your search engine:

    * site exclusion
    * labels and refinements
    * collaboration

    Within AdSense for search, you can create channels and view performance reports for all of your search engines, whether you create them through AdSense for search or CSE.

    If you already have an existing AdSense account, we recommend that you create all your search engines in AdSense for search.
