I have a website that gets a good amount of traffic (3000 unique a month) and is currently placing well in search engines. The only problem is it doesn't make money besides a little adsense for content revenue ($10 a month) and doesn't have a very good potential for revenue otherwise. If I shut down the content of my site and put on Google for domains with the highest CPC ads...a good portion of my direct and search engine traffic will likely click on the links. Is this a legal way of using adsense for domains? It seems like I'm cheating by having so much traffic coming to a page with only google links. I think I'll make a good amount for a few weeks until the rankings go down for the site and people figure out what's going on. This way I don't lose money on hosting and just pay the yearly domain fee. Any thoughts?
I think you are not supposed to build backlinks for domains in the program, but I'm not sure about existing links. It'll surely kill your SERP results though. Like you said, it will be a death blow for your site to do this. Read the program's terms start to finish. You don't want to mess with the big G.
Hmmm, thanks Ghengis, that's what I'm wondering - if you have an existing site with backlinks and shut it down to only host Google ads, is it legal? I can't find anything in their Terms and Conditions that say anything against it. I know it will look bad though having a very high click through rate.... I was going to shut this site down anyways (lose money hosting it), thought I should do something with the traffic.
I don't think your CTR will be much different from anything else out there. All the adsense for domains sites are going to have a high CTR. I do think the quality of links might play a role in how google sees it. For instance, a bunch of black hat links built quick and then dropping a domain in the program would be worse than taking an established website with valid backlinks and putting it in the program. I'm guessing it should be OK, but I'm not a domainer. I think a warning would be much more likely than a ban if it turns out you were wrong.
Sure, you can earn revenue on your parked pages with Google AdSense for domains. Check out this link http://www.google.com/domainpark/
