I just got an email saying I only have two ad blocks on most of my pages and I should think about having three. How sweet of them to think of me :)

Also got a "Invitation to participate in AdSense general category blocking beta test"

I feel it not very useful, what do you think

    ---- the letter -----

    Hi,

We're excited to invite you to beta test a new AdSense feature called general category blocking. This new feature is based on publisher requests for more filtering options to give you more control over the ads on your sites. We’d like your help trying it out.

General category blocking lets you block ads that fall into a few hundred categories, including travel, finance, automotive, and many others. You'll be able to opt out of up to 50 categories. Ads you've blocked through other blocking features including by advertiser URL, sensitive category, network and in the Ad Review Center, will also continue to work.

In addition, to help you monitor the revenue impact of filtering specific categories, we'll show you the percentage of your total revenue each category contributes. These percentages will be based on data from the previous few days, so you may wish to wait until later this week when our system will reflect the most recent information. For these percentages to be accurate, your sites will need to reach a minimum amount of click and impression activity. Also, keep in mind that once you filter a category, the associated revenue contribution will gradually taper down; however, if you re-enable the category you'll be able to see it ramp up again over the next few days.

General category blocking is only available in the new AdSense interface. When you sign in to your AdSense account at www.google.com/adsense, you'll see the legacy interface and a 'Try new AdSense' link in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. Clicking this link will bring you to the new interface.

Then visit the "Allow & block ads" tab and you’ll find the ‘General categories’ blocking page. You'll see a list of categories as well as have the ability to view sub-categories. Select up to 50 categories to block and click 'Save' to confirm your choices.

As a member of a small beta test group, we encourage you to try this new feature and provide us with your feedback by filling in the form below:
    ..link hidden..

Please keep in mind this feature will currently only apply to English ads, regardless of the language of the site. We're working on additional options for publishers with sites in other languages.

We appreciate your input, and look forward to incorporating your suggestions into this new feature.

    Sincerely,

    The Google AdSense Team
