I have been doing small experiments in which the focus is to improve adsense earnings. This was brought on by having a click through rate (CTR) less than 0.4% a month this is based on my 80,000 to 100,000 impressions a month I get with my hand full of websites. I wanted to improve the CTR to 1% plus. Also I wanted to use high paying keywords to increase my overall adsense earnings. So what did I do. :- (1) I changed the position of my main add, making it a focal point on the page. (2) I changed the add style. I stopped allowing picture adds on these web pages. (3) I changed the color settings making it stand out but still plain. (4) Something different was required so I made a couple of new pages using high paying keyword phrases. The first page was No Win No Fee Lawyers. Making it simple as possible but found that there was something missing. (5) The next page I done as a software, article, icons and top ebooks give away page with a difference. Take a look - Free Down Loads. I made this free downloads page using high paying keyword phrase. Increasing my Click Through earnings and making the page popular at the same time. The overall effect of these changes as paid of more than I would of imagined. And my earnings is increasing daily. Now a question for You. :- Can you come up with any other legal methods I may use to increase my adsense earnings?
Yes Google allows that page I'm not breaking any TOS and it is kept simple because it's an experiment... Also it allows me to market the page on two fronts the give aways and the content.
i always assumed image ads paid more for some reason, i think i'll test out text ads for the first time...
Yes a tip, use google insights for search in your niche and identify popular searches, then make a page with good original content on it, do that several times per day for one week, then the next week you'll start getting more traffic and earnings on those pages. Rince and repeat as much as you want/can.
You need to be suttle. By placing 2 big adsense units at the top of your page, you made me want to leave the page straight away. Or at worst skip past the ads to the content. Try placeing a ad unit in your content on the right hand side and a ad unit at the bottom. People are looking for something else to do after finishing reading your content.
I still wonder whether blend in or stand out color settings work better. I have always used the same color as the other links on my site, and CTR is not bad.
That plain page may have a decent CTR, but honestly, a standard site setup with a large rectangle in the center of the user's view combined with an ad block near the footer and two text link blocks above the sidebar menu navigation should be able to beat your setup and will look much less spammy. TomG. PS - And yes, nice site promo. BTW.
