AdSense experiment: First ad unit contains the highest paying ads

If you put several AdSense ad units on your page, you need to remember that the first ad unit always contains the best paying links. Here’s a description of my experiment, which shows that the difference is often as big as 8-10 times! It also tells you how you can increase your earnings by simply altering the loading order of your ad units (with practical example).

Ad on my page loaded left to right, because I have just one table row.

Generally the ad that loads first is the one that it first declared in your code.

 

My understanding is that ads are loaded in the order they appear in the source code of the page.

How do adlinks factor into this?

 

Adlinks are not connected with the ad units, and will contain the same keywords regardless of where they are placed on the page.
