A high hearning forum is one that gets tremendous levels of traffic because people are less likely to click on the ads.

Most adsense clicks from guest, not members. Try other than adsense such as auctionads, chitika, amazon.

i think you are right because members do only forum activities. but that will be the same reason for chitika/amazon to not work. isn't it?

Forums have extremely low CTR, normally. 1% is very high. I used to get around 0.5% after a lot of optimizations. It was a low 0.2% when I purchased the forum!

Having said that, it is easy to get traffic to a forum, than any other site. Building a forum and getting the first few thousand members are difficult but then it gets easy. Create a forum if you are willing to invest lot of time and efforts without getting any return for months/years. Forums are most likely to get repeat visitors, than any other site.

About monitizing, you will have to use more than just adsense. A mix of adsense+chitika+ebay affiliates+inline ads like kontera is going to do well. You may have to experiment a bit before selecting 2-3 that works for you. As I said, low click through is compensated by the high traffic and repeat vistors.

Try using Kontera .. they pay very low amounts, but you'll get high CTR and that will compensate .... I used to get around 0.5% CTR with Adsense and daily earnings about $1 p/d and when I switched to Kontera I got about 3% CTR and about $3-$4 ....

Try it out ... might work for you

I do have a forum and my forum earns the least out of all my websites that are showing the google ads.

Sometimes it also depends on what kind of forum you have and what kind of people will be visiting it.

Let set the forum to be a door to other website, the forum is good for traffic, then use the traffic to make a thing

    good luck

i have a pretty popular forum and both adsense and YPn did horrible. I've added Kontera and AuctionAds and they both do well.. Kontera does very well..

I think this post has answered my earlier question regarding my low CTR. At first I thought the low ctr was my doing, but seeing as it's general for forums to have low CTR, I'm going to invest in local banner advertising instead - as a member had suggested I do.

think of it this way: how often do you click on the ads here?

People that actively on your forum will not notice the ads so you have to switch the ad's color from time to time to avoid colour blindness.

For my site it probably had a lot to do with the placement.. I had the Adsense and YPn in the sidebar - but Kontera places it's textlinks through the entire page - resulting in higher CTR..

In forums people used to refer only at threads and postings, and they don't bother abt the ads on the top.

Why can u try some mods to place ads on the thread itself ?

I wouldn't say it is just Adsense that pays low on forums. It is likely to be other ad networks aswell including AuctionAds. This is because people go to forums to read and post and not to click on ads to purchase something, although a few do.

Overall, the best thing for you to do is to try different ads and programs and then you will know which is the best to use.

Does anybody run google ads and Kontera on the same forum? Did adding Kontera have any effect on click through rate?
