may be you make your link colors on all adsense inkl link unit standard blue - i.e. 0000ff

    and

after you filter out or better KNOCK OUT almost all www from advertising on your site ...
who in heaven do you still expect there if you reduce all competition ??

    my most serious advice
remove ALL your filter and accept full global competition ( see my own blog-article on that topic smart pricing )

then wait until free competition starts again after a few days

if too many cheap bidders - then remove ONE ad unit to make your ad-space rare and cause serious bidders to FIGHT for it

and if you still want to go double rectangle unit

then mixed format side by side
    i.e.
    336x280 PLUS 300x250

as published much earlier ( blog ) i strictly recommend the 336x280 unless you have clear $-proof otherwise on YOUR site

myself I compared both formats and got some 30-40+ % MORE $ on the 336 compared to the smaller 300 rect
    in ATF placement

but some links i filtered out are LCPC sites anyway,so what does deleting the list do...?
most of them just pay low.

yeah i understand it increases competition, but it increases competition between people who don't pay much.
But you think i should also delete those mfa sites out of the list ? ,like those very obvious ones:

    10-bestsites.com
    10-top-sites.com
    12-bestsites.com

i had all such and many more
any competition always drives prices UP

it seems you never have been in serious business of bidding on auctions

    example

you have 1 ad unit with 4 ad slots
hence 4 bidders can have a slot

lets say you have 2 real sites bidding for a slot

    site1.com
    site2.com

    plus your 3
    1. 10-bestsites.com
    2. 10-top-sites.com
    3. 12-bestsites.com

now lets say above 3 aree real cheapies
they still need to bid ONE cent more than the highest to get on top

hence lets say - they have NO competition they bid
    1. 3 cents
    2. 2 cents
    3. 1 cent

now we get competition by REAL ppl / real serious sites who want to do real business on your adsense enhanced site.

site1.com is ready to go up to 7 cents
site2.com is readey to go up to 9 cents

    if you filter cheapies
and have no OTHER bidders for a particular page
then you have 2 text ads and the remainder is free

they both get smart prices - because YOU smart priced them by REMOVING their generic competitors

hence the 2 generic sites may get your slots for may be as low as 1 and 2 cents - eventhough they would be willing to go up to 7 or 9 cents respectively - they get it as cheap as the competition allows

now you add the 3 filtered again
and the slots for 1, 2 and 3 cents are occupied by the cheapies
hence the generic sites will have to pay one cent more to get on top and push 2 of the cheapies OUT of your ONE ad-unit

if YOU as a publisher are poorly chosing your topics then you have only a few biders and mostly cheapies

it is YOUR choice to write about important topics that attract many - a dozen or more - bidders on those keywords / pages

it is your freedom to REDUCE ad-slots as published in my blog - to have less slots than total bidders
which in turn will have the strongest ones on top and all others dropping out

last year for many months i had a long list of such cheapies

now i have zero filter since long and cheapies ONLY appear now and then for hours or so if real business have a coffee break or on a few very poor topic-pages

with NO filter at all and a precise method as outlined in the blog - I make a generic 2 digits on ctr/ecpm resulting in a solid $$$$ amount / m
with a mixed site/global origin of some 10'000+ unique visitors / day with zero advertising at all and zero link exchange

so gretel what experience do you have to proof your point mathematically that reduced competition results in higher prices per ad ??
to me as a many decades old business-man your idea of competition is frightening low.

    as a final practical experience:

many month back i had a CPM customer who wanted to be all over my site for many weeks - with up to 2 full LARGEST ugly image ads per page!!!
and he/she was outbidding any other competition
except the very best ones on high tech pages
and he/she was up to twice on most pages with 3 adunits

the only option my strong real bidders had was to bid as high as needed to get a

the result was that the ecpm instantly jumped from a midium 3quarter of 1 digit into a solid low 2 digit amount for the full period of CPM campaign of the one site customer.

Okee i read your story, you are right.
Tough it was never my intention to proove you were wrong ;)
In the beginning i had better ecpm, (a year ago or something) and thats why i tought things were weird.
But if i am following you correctly, all the people filtering out links, are doing bad work?
And if i dont filter links anymore, that means those links start to appear again, and only after a while the bidding against each other starts to work, not that i have the patience, but i am correct on this one?
I will get on to work with your advice.

I've learned that having just 1 ad instead of 2 or 3 makes the cost per click go up dramatically

also, if you change your title tag, the traffic from search engines will change

the most important thing to google right now is the title tag IMO

those filtered out - if they have been CPM customers - it may take a while for them to come back.

for the changes to take effect - allow between several days up to a few weeks.

the more traffic you have - the better the quality of posts - the more site advertisers and ads you attract and the more all cheapies will be blown away.

just produce lots of really COOL stuff !!
