I found a thread on webmasters world that suggests that ads may not display if the file "show_ads.js" is not present in your web browser's cache. If its not then it has to be downloaded from the googler server. My best guess is that the google server is not working properly now (I can't even download their adsense preview tool) and since I'm missing this file (I did a search) my ads don't show up. Can someone please attach this file "show_ads.js" here if you have it. Thanks.
Hmmm... curious that you can't download it automatically if it's missing... Let's see if this works...
Hmmm... what I uploaded contained a file but maybe AV softeware on the forum or at your end stripped it... Try this -- when you get it, rename it by removing the .txt at the end and then copy it if you can to your temporary internet folder...
I'm not able to put it in the Temporary Internet Files, If you change it from Read Only, it goes back the same.
??? it's not a read-only file here. What happens when you try to copy it to the Temporary Internet folder? You may have to shut down your browser and reboot, depending on your OS -- speaking of which, what browser and OS are you using?
No, I mean the folder Temporary Internet Files is read only and I can't change that. I can't copy or move the file into this folder. I'm using Win XP Pro SP1 and IE6, but also tried MyIE2 and Opera with the same results
Hmmm... I was afraid of that... I've never tried to ADD stuff to that folder, only delete stuff. I guess you're back to the contacting Google AdSense option... the one time I did that they solved the issue within 24 hours -- go to your AdSense login and I think there's a techsupport link there...
I've already done it a few hours ago. but take a look at this. Isn't this weird. I browsed my site with the opera browser and as you can see, the built in google ads work in the browser, but none on my web-site...hmmm
you mentioned that your "temporary internet files folder" is readonly. it should not be. it should be default to read and write attributes. readonly temporary folder can cause by privacy software, they change the attribute of the folder so that there will be no cookie or tracking script that can be written on that folder making your pc untracable.
Actually, that doesn't seem to be correct, melfan. After Googles76 mentioned it, I checked mine (Windows XP SP1) and my folder was also read only -- with no privacy software such as you describe installed here now or ever...
alek: see post #19 at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=3945&page=2&pp=10 -- Googles76 identified a missing but required javascript file as the culprit.
I missed that ... ummmm ... I assume what is being referred to is a line you need to have in your html that looks like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"> </script> Code (markup): This is straight from the Adsense setup ... so yea, if this was unavailable, you'd probably be hosed.
Maybe I don't "get it" ... but I don't have the show_ads.js file actually on my web servers - it's pulled from Google at the URL above ... so you are saying that Google was unable to serve it up for some time (?)
When I look in my temporary internet folder, I see that file, obviously downloaded from Google by the AdSense script. Apparently, Googles76 didn't see it and can't add it to his temporary internet folder -- why it's missing and why the AdSense script just doesn't download it again from Google is a mystery to me too.
ya...all I have to do right now is wait. Thanks for the heads up, I thought someone found a solution.
