Sorry if some one ask this question before. Is there anyone has good earning of google adsense on directory website? Or at least cover the web hosting expenses? Any info is very much appreciated.
my directory not making much but fair enough.... just implement the tips given by members of this forum... you will see changes
I'm able to use the money generated from 'directory one' for my entire network of sites' hosting. Though I only need $9.95 per month for hosting.
It’s all about layout and back links. You’ll never see the money that a good content filled site will generate, but it should be enough to help feed the birds.
Heard that the ctr for directory is very low, perhaps less than 1%. Anyone has better ctr for directory site?
You're right very low ctr... but you can apply some technique in this forum like the picture above the ads after doing this my directory increase it's ctr from 1% to 2.1%. After experiencing this changes I made another expirement, when the use click a certain category it targeted to another window. So the visitor have a second chance to look at the page where my ad is displayed. this increase my ctr.
I run a single themed niche directory and 10 other regional and general ones all with much the same amount of traffic (all 11). I earn 100 times more on the niche one, than all the other combined. Kim
I've made a directory site a few months ago and it is actually getting higher ctr than my other sites. It's all about ad placement. Just take a look at Google's heatmap to see which locations are best.
I think the key is CONTENT. About 75% of the directories I see posted on this site and others have have little or no listings in their categories. I would guess most users hit "Back" when they see stuff like that. Fill the directory with content, then promote it, then place your ads and you will see a good return. That is the key for any content site, far to many want to make money off their site before they have any content.
In addition to the link descriptions showing on each page, you might try adding a focused paragraph at the top of each page or sub page describing the nature of the links on that page. For example, say you have a page for xbox video games, at the top of that page describe the types of resources in that listings page, and throw in some high-value keywords such as the names of the most recent/popular games for that platform.
Yes, I agree that I make much more on my niche directories than the general ones. One reason is I often attract repeat visitors, who return because they are interested in the specific topic matter. The main way I have made money on the general directories is not through adsense, but through agreements with SEOs who want to pay me to list their links at bulk rates.
If placement of adsense are optimized, it does yield desired results for sure. My directory alldotnet, may be not raking money, but it is doing good enough to fund its expenses. Niche directory gets more especially my webhostrank.
