I just looked at stats I've been collecting over the last 300k page views. Due to the AdSense TOS, I can't list exact number, but I can say this: 1. Yahoo users are almost twice as likely as Google users to click an AdSense ad. 2. MSN users are closer to three times as likely as Google users to click an AdSense ad.
Nice info! Thanks! Just curoious how you came up with these #'s - are these #'s extrapilated from the monthly traffic #'s from each engine and the # of clicks for that month..? How do you track which visitors clicked the ads..? (is this an adsense feature ..!!?) I have so much to learn - I love data!
That's interesting to know... thanks for sharing Will. I had actually seena similar trend with traffic, though not by using the tracker, just by noticing revenue fluxuations that changed with the fluxations from various SE's. I wonder what causes the Adsense CTR to be higher for non-Google users?
Adsense Tracker looks nice, but $99.95 for something that only tracks clicks that come from Internet ExploDer users seems a bit steep. How accurate can the stats be? I realize that IE is still the dominant browser, but alternate browsers have become very popular. I know many people who use either Mozilla or Firefox. I use Firefox 99% of the time unless I am on a site that doesn't function in Firefox (not too many).
300k views isn't a huge base to make stats so there is room for a margin of error, however this confirms what I've been speculating for some time. Yahoo and MSN users are quite a bit less "computer knowledgable" in most cases than Google users.
yahoo / msn = housewifes, old people google = geeks, professionals thats why more clicks from yahoo / msn users - they dont know the difference.
In other words.. if you are building new sites, better go for sites that is designed/targeted for housewifes/old people because they are more inclined to click? So even if you're thinking of creating a site about linux for example .. you are better off creating a site about gardening .. I certainly will put that to test
dang, i should really work on my yahoo and msn rankings! they suck at the moment when compared to google
people are too lazy for gardening these days. better build shopping site about universal remotes and cushiony sofas!
Thanks for the post Will - hadn't tried the Adsense tracker before - do you think theres enough of a benefit for a newbie just clearing $65 this month - my second ($22 first month, $65 this month)..?
I'd say there's a benefit to anyone with a lot of traffic/impressions. My earnings went from ~100 or so to ~1,500 in a 1 month span.
Well... My 2 sites togather range from 150-300 or so ad impressions a day... and neither are really 'AdSense' sites - ...maybe I should wait, I have a few sites in development that will have better spots for adsense.. BUT - I REALLY like the sound of going from 100 to 1000! (I assume you mean $ per month..?)
Correct. I had a few sites I hadn't gotten links for.. after the links kicked in all at once I had 3 sites jump to top 5 rankings and my earnings shot up accordingly I went from 300-500 impressions a day to about 8,000
