Adsense combined with other advertising

    Hi
Anybody out there combining adsense with other text / banner advertising on their site? Can the combination work or would other (perhaps less targeted advertising) take away revenue from the adsense ads?

i think you should read the adsense TOS as i think you will find that it breaks the rules.

having other types of advertising on your site/pages doesn't break the TOS unless it is the same type of contextual (competing) advertising.

I always check with them first though before adding something else just to be safe.

"We do not permit Google ads or search boxes accessing Google search services to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads or services. If you have elected to receive contextually-targeted Google ads, this would include all other contextually-targeted ads or links on the same page as Google ads. This would also include ads throughout the site that mimic Google ads or otherwise appear to be associated with Google on your site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads do not mimic Google ads. If you have elected to receive Google search services, this would include other search services on the same site and non-Google query-targeted ads. We do allow affiliate or limited-text links."

Well i think you should consult with the google team and ask if this kind of advertising is not against there TOS. IF not then go ahead with it.

That is a bit murky when you read it, isn´t it? What are ¨limited text links¨ and what are contextual ads ... those that appear automatically based on site content?

I sell text ads on my site but they are static sold by six or twelve months to specific companies not through a broker so I am presuming that is allowed.

I have asked Google if Vibrant Media (IntelliTXT) is permitted, the answer was Yes.

Best to always check with Google BFORE doing anything.

I've run other advertising along with adsense and didn't notice a significant drop in adsense revenue.

However I'd be very careful running text ads. Making sure they do not look like adsense ads. Something like what is mentioned in the TOS "We do allow affiliate or limited-text links.". A clean list of links or a detailed description of an offer probably won't get you in trouble. If you're not sure if the ad units you want to run are allowed. Make up a test page and ask google.

Two days after implementing IntelliTXT, my several key rankings with Google were dropped like a stone. It is speculation only that Google may consider IntelliTXT as spam, and using it could hurt your ranking with them. Just a heads up to those who rely heavily on Google as a source of traffic, like me. It's the only thing I can think of that would have caused my rankings to drop so severely.

You can have other advertising, just not competitive with Google. I put a lot of Red Cross in addition to Google. That's OK. But Googel with Yahoo YPN is not.

Did you check with them on if it is allowed? I checked months ago and they said yes, then when I checked again just before implementing it (it had been a while) they said no.

Not that it would effect your rankings. I just thought I would let you know.

I use adbrite and Kontera text-links on my site. Paychecks have not stopped coming from :) No problem from Google side. However, I am NOT using the Kontera text-match ads, as they are very much like Google and I do NOT want to take any risk with that!

I did not, however I did find another forum post here about what to do when Google puts a potential spam penalty on your site. There's no other change that could affect my ranking, and I went from #2 to nowhere in site (and this was a ranking that earns serious revenue for me.) I did some research and found that some consider IntelliTXT to be a form of "spam" and that Google may also frown on it. (I see it not as spam but another excellent form of revenue.) While it should not affect my search rankings, it is the only recent change I have made.

I posted my whole story in the Google forum actually, and for some reason the post was moved under the "Website Review" forum. That didn't make sense to me either, however if you search for "IntelliTXT" on the board you can read the whole story. Thanks for your interest any any insight you can provide.
