Before a Month when i checked for adsense.com it was taking me to a different site ..some kind of consultancy .. Yesterday i just tried it and now it goes to google.com/adsense Anyone observed that?
i thought this should be in their control already, well, if they bought it then the seller would have > $500000 in his pocket,
I don't think they must pay anything. The AdSense name is a BRAND and Google owns it. So they can take that domain from anyone for FREE!
no not really adsense.com was registered before google.com and adsense was the name of a company many years before google started their adsense
I think google had to pay for it because the previous adsense company was established way before google's adsense. According to reports it was sold for an undisclosed sum. http://www.adsense2.com/ are the old owners. look at the text in the top right of the page
Yes, they did get it free. The previous owners did not trademark it. If they had, then google would ovbviously would have had to pay big bucks.
But i dont think a Domain can be given for free without the owners permission ( I mean the one who registered it )
last I read, the original owners sold the domain rights to someone other than google.... google must have bought it from them.....
although the domain adsense.com was registered years before google launched adsense, Google asked the owners to drop that domain without offering any sunstancial amount since they trademarked the name adsense. so selfish
Yes, you can't own something that is registered as a trademark. For example on some countries some guy buy domain like cocacola, or hbo, etc... You will be forced to give them the domain, because it's the name of their business or it's a registered trade mark.
then they must not sell it, i think that its not the buyers fault when a domain belongs to a trademark. The seller must warn him at least for this danger. Who makes the rules that tell what kind of domains belong to a trademark??? From what i know its clearly on company's hand to take a domain as a trademark even though the domain is not so close to their name. Who makes the desicion for a domain? And who makes the trademark laws? I mean lets say i buy from Greece a com domain and then this is a trademark for a company in Brazil what law can apply on me and make me deliver the domain i purchased? I think that this issues are a big gap on domain industry and all i can do is laugh with them. All points that simple people are not protected from big fishes PS: what if i have a domain before a specific trademark was registered. I can talk for hours about dead end examples... i just think its pathetic
Agree with you .. There are hardly any websites having registered trademarks.. Just take the example... Assume DP doesnt have any trademark .. If i go take the trademark of DP ...will DP domain be given to me ?? I guess its impossible.
If you didn't registered the brand you are at risk, because for the international law it's just a name and you don't own it legally, only if you registered it ar a trade mark or brand.
i know that no international laws applies on residents of my country if my country doesnt have them as greek laws as well. What i want to point is that all this thing is messed up and i cant understand why! The money that gets lost are our money, how can i start a web bussiness if there is a big risk loosing my domain??? It seems like a giant thats has fragile legs. We have so many agreement and terms of use, privacy policies and texts. Does anybody know from a to z what happens on such case? Is there a website that we can find out what international laws says???
