All, I recently launched a news blog, using blogger.com and put AS in the margins. The problem is that the only ads that get displayed are for other blogs. How do I get ads displayed that reflect my content and not advertisements for different blogs? thanks,
Section targeting will most likely help you: https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=23168&topic=371 Good luck, and best regards, Eiso
I do notice this is bound to happen for bloggers or when we are running a discussion forum. The results I've seen is quite mixed: on a number of discussion threads, targeted ads do appear. On others, there are always ads on phpBoard or blogging websites. I think this problem lies within the scripting side of Google AdSense itself. We really can't do much about it. Just my 0.02, maybe others have different experience?
What will help you: 1) use section targeting (as recommended above) 2) Build your content (ditto) 3) make certain each post is welltargeted keyword-wise. 4) understand that Permalink pages will always have better ad targeting, and that index pages (in a blog) will often have ads targetted to posts anywhere from three to five days old (assuming daily posting) Best luck! -Kevin
Great thoughts guys. Could I maybe get a different result if I switched to a different blog software? Currently I'm using blogger.com, which I suspect could be a problem since its G's blog software. Just a thought.
I use blogger and i don't have blog ads! Take a look at your keywords, if you write many times the word "blog" maybe that's the reason...
i have the same problem. I think its mainly because of the word "blog" in my URL. Ads on Blogs and blogs and only blogs. I use section targeting. And have been it for the past month or so. + All my pages are quite old. I have pretty decent content in my pages, but somehow....only blog ads. Someone suggested me to block all blog related ads, and its working great. I keep a close eye on the ads that are displayed, and if i feel that the ad is not worth, i block it. Normally the blog related ads are really "low" paying.. 3 cents to 5 cents. I dont want my visitors to leave my page for such a low payout. During the time i had blocked the ads, my average earnings increased. For now, i have disabled all the filters after i read the post on the adsense blog about the filters theory. But the moment i removed it, .... my pages are bombared with "Blog" related ads.
I have a number of blogs, mostly with WordPress. I have had the blog ads problem on some blogs and not others. The best thing you can do is remove the words blog/weblog from the Title tag, which is probably created from the blog title and/or subtitle. Examine the sites for repetive titles with the word blog, such as title/subtitle in the sidebar, or URLs of other blogs, which contain the text blog in the URL, and add Google target code to ignore those section. The above will help, but the rest will depend on the blog content, if you have enough non-blog word content you will not get blog ads, if you don't have enough, it will generally know the site is a blog, and if it can't find other ads to deliver based on content, it will fall back to blog ads.
Oh, yeah! If you have the word "blog" in your title or even your blogger subdomain address, get it outta there and replace with one or more keyphrase(s)!
I always get blog ads for new post, but it will change to more targeted ads after few hours. I use blogger. Can we use bold, italyc and underline to get more targeted ads? I use it for SEO reason, but I don't know if they will affect the ads displayed on our page or not.
SEO does have an effect on ad selection, it's in the AdSense patent that they do it. But the main thing is to remove as many references to the words "blog" and "feed" from the pages. Watch especially the "alt" tags for the RSS buttons you might be displaying, that's often a source of those keywords. And if you have "blog" in your URL, might as well give up
