Hi fellow webmasters, I am new in this - can someone tell me what does MFA stand for?

Also, if there is a glossary somewhere that I can refer to that will be great too :)

MFA stands for Made For Adsense, those are simply websites made for the purposes of attracting visitors via adwords and other PPC programs and to redirect users on AdSense ads, if possible with higher paying ads, so that the webmaster can get a profit after paying adwords.

The list of MFA sites can be obtained, 200 at a time, from adsblacklist for example, this list is not accurate and definitively not handy to use and not complete, will never be, as MFA sites are plenty and change often.

If you check the other thread you find a bold footnote that I first posted in the wrong forum and that I ask to delete the blacklist thread in the review forum.

I would be up for an experiement as well.

blocking MFA website will lower your average PPC. why do you all bother so much whether the ads is from top companies or MFA sites !!

As long as they can manage to get to the top of your site, you should keep it. Because adsense only shows the highest paying keywords on your site :)

The only one that you should include in your filter is blinko.com

It appears to bid on thousands of keywords and serve "Free ringtone" ads on your sites. That is the only one you should filter out I think! Because it doesn't provides relevant ad which I beleive will drive lower CTR.

That "some sort of CTR component" is widely known as "smart pricing".

Blacklists are not just to block competitors...you can block ads that have been smart priced into a higher slot because they get a great CTR and convert really well.

I was skeptical when someone told me that i can actually make more money by using the blacklist list on a particular site but i thought i'd test it for four weeks. My results? Im making 15% more daily, i can see a noticable change. I'm not sure exactly why but the site i got it from had a good expanation. Check it out. http://www.adsblacklist.com/

See? There you go. One person made more when they used the blacklist, another made less. It depends on your site and your audience.

i think the only "black" things here are MFA sites, as i'm looking for sth and i land on a site like that then it makes me wonder why it is still up and running, they should be blocked, they give a bad experience for web users and dont have a high CTR.

i think there should be a way to get rid of these sites once and for all.

Because of my niche it's VERY easy to see when one site is legitimate and when another is MFA

I have started a personal test myself today.
I put 200 urls into my blacklist provided by http://www.adsblacklist.com/

I let you know in one week how it is progressing.

I think it depends a lot on the niche your site is in.
My niche (HipHop Music) has very low paying ads in general.

Google AdSense works like AdWords (I mean showing ads next to google search results ) .

On Google they don't show the high paying ads first , it's based on CTR also . So if an ad has a CTR of 10% and is paying $0.02 per click it will be shown more then an ad that pays $0.10 but has a CTR of 1% .

"Top 10 websites " ads I think have a pretty good CTR but pay $0.01-$0.03 so it can be shown instead of other high-paying ads .

In the end you can get more clicks for low $$$ instead of a few clicks with more $$$ .

Try it and see how it works better for you, testing is the way :)

i can't speak for tossing someone else's blacklist into my blocklist, but adsense is not as smart as google would have you believe.

i have an aviation news and airplane picture site where people love planes and flying. i went through a period where adsense was running "fear of flying" ads again and again and again. i blocked. i complained. i blocked some more. i complained some more. arrrrrrrrgh.

these just ate up display inventory. if adsense was really smart it would know not to run those ads in the first place and remove them automagically when they got no clicks on my domain at all.

block and complain when appropriate folks.

Have anybody thought it? If every publisher blacklist every low paying ad, every advertiser will higher their bid. So, google and we will earn more :)

By the way, I have already blacklisted some MFAs and competitor's ad, and it certainly higher my earning.

Yes, I see an increase in my earnings today as well. My block list is growing. It is rather easy to see which ads are the low paying ones. :D

don't forget to filter the adsense for search also. I just filtered it yesterday, and today for the first time I got $1.50 in one click from adsense for search. yay!
