Adsense beginner, one problem.

These forums seem like a really good place for Adsense info and help so I thought I'd join up.

I created a website several months ago http://www.ozfreestuff.com. I get several hundred hits a day.
The problem is that the Adsense ads on the Home page aren't relevant...but they are on every other page. The site uses Wordpress. I've tried using Adsense targeting to ignore the main sections on the front page and concentrate on the other bits, but no luck.

I see other similar sites to mine, very similar, yet they manage to have the relevant ads showing...

I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks.

Probabily the "free Beauty pack" makes all those cosmetics ads to shopw up?....the ads are near to that post, that would explain why you have those ads. They are related to your content somewhat...

Yet you have the contact lens post and ads. I've learned that sometimes you have to stick to google gives to you and a lot of times they don't show the ads you's wish they show.
Probabily it will be changing as you update and some posts dissapear from the main page.
I don't see a major problem with your ads. They could be "better related"? yes, but if adsense targetting didn't work, i don't recall any other solution.
(Clearification: i've been off adsense for a year or so, maybe there are some new techniques about placement/relevance that i ignore)

Is there any way to help "make" it more specific? Why Google dont let you choose by keywords or phrases is a mystery to me...

I would have thought after several months, Google would have learned what the website is about, so I dont think it will change over time...

keep writing content with key words and those relevant ads will show... make sure that your website focuses on something and isn't all over the place

"I've tried using Adsense targeting to ignore the main sections"

Do you mean, you have tried section targeting?

I suggest you do section targeting to display relevant ads, if you haven't tried it

    google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=23168&topic=8441

    Also, filter out irrelevant ads.

How can you say the ads are not relevant?

The ads are currently all about contact lens soultions and cleaner.

And at the bottom of your page you have a posting about free contact lens solution.

    Totally relevant.

You site is not content specific. So the ads are going to be all over the place. One day it might be about contact lenses cleaners. The next day it might be about GPS devices.

Yes thats true, but you go to any other site (or some of my other of my pages) and the ads show other links to survey sites, freeibie sites etc...thats what I need to be showing.

@angilina sorry yes I meant section targetting...I tried that but it seemed to make no difference.

I've tried adding some tags to the posts to include more keywords, and it seems to have made a difference..it's now showing some ads that i was after. Thanks for the help by you all...hopefully the ads stay a bit more relevant now.
