there are some that i like..they're good descriptive names. i dont think they'd do well in terms of SEO ranking *but* they'd be nice to use as inner links etc

Adsense bans are done on an account level, not a website level.

Although you will want to inform AdSense if you have bought a domain that was previously part of a ban. They will send you a form letter stating its now OK but it is worth it to have.

If that was the site that was the reason for the ban in the first place, it could still be being reported (maybe the owner sent out mass emails asking for clicks) so establishing the change of ownership may be important

That may seem to be lot of hassle but i hope its good that you get things cleared out with google rather than having your account disabled!

So the domain will become "black listed"? I thought that only the adsense ID would be banned. Good info, thanks! Don't want to buy a banned domain.

I don't think anyone said that  I have purchased sites in which the previous owner was banned. I just advise you to follow the advice I gave to protect yourself.

I don't understand how one quick email is "a lot of hassle" though. Hassle is getting a suspension lifted when you have no documentation ;)
