Can you run both together? Is it allowed by both companies?

They are both contextual, so you are not to run them together on the same pages.

Say you have a site that has Google AdSense ads on 50% of the pages and YPN ads on 50% of the pages and there are 0 pages that have both then you are OK?

But lets then say this same site has a Google search box on 100% of its pages, then this would be in violation because a Google search box is on the same page as a YPN ad?

I understand competing text ads on the same page, but what if you use the Google Search as your site search? And this search is available on every page.
It seems that this would be ok because YPN ads are showing on a page and no AdSense ads will be showing until someone actually searches something. And once the user clicks on search they are taken to a different page with Google Ads and no YPN ads are present.

    What do you think?
