For two years I have been toying with adsense and websites (emph on toying) - The problem is that there is not a whole lot of personal interests on the higher paying subjects from myself. Just cannot get excited about mortgages, bad credit, and the like. My passion is motorcycles, macs, and photography, and they are in my opinion very low returns on investment when it comes to ppc and content. You would have to get tons more clicks (guess for 1 mortgage click you would need 10-30 clicks in my areas of interest) Have gone through elance and purchased articles for the higher paying keywords but they are very generic and lack the passion one would need to obtain certain financial goals. Any thoughts? (the really would be appreciated) -Jon
I personally prefer to build a site about a subject I like, most of the time, because it is the best way to stick to it in the long run. I buy content for the subjects that I am less passionate about, because they bring in good revenues, and I spend my own time on the sites I like. If a site is not as lucrative but you can get good trafic, try to play with affiliate programs as well, and build a mailing list. In the long run, it will pay off big time usually.
I too have a site that I'm passionate about. I don't put ads on all the pages for fear of putting people off. I only started with Google December but I'm thinking of designing and adding some ecards to the site. This would fit in well with the content but would it bring more traffic? Does anyone else have any experience of this type of content? Did it increase the number of uniques?
Thanks for your input - The walls start closing in when you work out of the house This forum is a great place to question, spout, vent and revive!
I just happen to do videoconferencing as my day job and honestly even I am having trouble sitting down and writing unique content. I guess one of my major concerns is putting myself out there to all of my colleagues. When I started vtctalk.com it was all about inviting my colleagues to share ideas. Now running a blog about it means all eyes on me and any articles I write. I mean I know my stuff, hence the decent salary I earn at it, but there's always gonna be some joker trying to get everyone to believe you don't know what you're talking about. I dont want to turn it into a blog site where I'm constantly defending myself, my position, or my knowledge of the job. ... scary.
I think you are better off focusing on a topic you are passionate about. As you said you can then generate more and more interesting content than something you are forcing. I think over time a blog or site that focused on a topic that interests you so you continue to add good quality content will do better than something you slapped together to appeal to a high-paying keyword audience you don't care about at all. Think about yourself as a web browser. When you are searching for information what makes you stay at a site or bookmark it -- quality information about the topic you are researching.
