Hey folks, I need an answer. I've tried to ask this question in other forums only to get deleted or ignored. Hopefully this forum can help! I have wikipedia content on my site and am using adsense within the content, however, I only get Public Service ads for those pages. Is this because of the duplicate content checker by Google OR do adsense just not work with wiki content? Thanks for any clarification!
Do a search for your Wikipedia term. Someone else posted about loosing indexing in Google for his pages using info from that source. See: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=5799&highlight=Wikipedia Shannon
Sites that duplicate Wikipedia content are getting hit. TheFreeDictionary (one of the bigger sites that scrapes WP content) is using overture now. Hopefuly after an AdSense cleanout, G will rid the search index of these sites.
Using Wikipedia content has nothing to do with it. I have a Wikipedia-based site, and AdSense appears just fine. What you must remember is that AdSense cannot serve relevant ads on a page till its bot--which is distinct from G's own listings bot--has sucked up that page. It seems to do so after the page has been hit once or twice, with, of course, a modest delay. But if you check one page after another, you'll miss it. Try loading some one page, then, maybe an hour later loading that same page again, then--if the ads aren't there yet--a second time another hour later. If still nothing, try the next day. Only if you still see no ads then should you be a bit concerned. (Note: do NOT click on any ads! Just get the AdSense display showing.) As to symetrix's remarks, Sites that duplicate Wikipedia content are getting hit. TheFreeDictionary (one of the bigger sites that scrapes WP content) is using overture now. Hopefuly after an AdSense cleanout, G will rid the search index of these sites. -- they contain some half-truths. The kinds of pages that are getting hurt by Google lately are the sort that have a fair amount of content similar to other pages--the notorious "duplicate-content filter". It is not specific to Wikipedia, and--considering all the honorable Wikipedia forks (check them out on Wikipedia's own site) that each try to serve the information a little differently--is not aimed at them, but at the asses who page-scrape almost at random, or catch G search output, and put together useless nonsense pages in order to try to catch some SERPs value. My own site, for example, combines the Wikipedia article on a subject (presented in, in my opinion, a nicer, cleaner, easier-to-read format) with all the Open Directory (dmoz) links pertinent to the article subject, so as to marry uniquely (so far as I have ever been able to determine) two independent but complementary and useful resources for the researcher (who may be aware of one, the other, both, or neither). If you are simply picking up Wikipedia's text, with little or no value added, you need to do something to differentiate your pages' content from that of Wikipedia itself and the other forks. And the same applies to any site with many pages that are, by their nature, fairly similar (as with, for example, catalogue pages where the proportion of unique data to page boilerplate is not high). Add some unique content. The adding--if the original pages are bona fide information--is generally pointless from any sane user's point of view, and slows down page loading and burdens the net generally, but hey, we're Google--we don't care, we don't have to! (They should engrave that in stone over the entrance to theit corporate headquarters, and hire Lily Tomlin as a spokesperson.)
I guess that i could work, the search engine probably haven't indexed you yet... or smt like that. there is a service that does exactly what you asked for, in a dynamic way, it is called wikifetcher. anyway, fuck adsense, use overture google becomes much more like microsoft in it's early days. when was the last time you tried to install google desktop? you get with all bunch of components that stucks you outlook... Integrov.
