Hi, First, this is an awesome forum! I can't imagine trying to figure out the internet marketing mystery without the generous help that is provided here (and in a few other select forums). I apologize if this question has been previously answered. I did look first. I am not entirely clear on the issue of adsense and directory submissions. My site currently has (almost) 30 pages. I have been accepted into 3 directories, including Jo-Ant. I have read it is best to submit to directories before putting any adsense on my site. Is this correct? Will I be rejected because of Adsense? Thank you, Jackie
Well, if you've got original content it shouldn't matter about the adsense. But the reality is that a lot of directory owners simply reject any submission that has adsense prominently plastered all over. As long as you have your adsense tastefully integrated rather than "in your face" it shouldn't make a difference to your acceptance in a directory.
Also, if you are making a made-for-adsense type site, even without the Adsense, most directory owners will know what you are up to and still reject you. Make a quality site and with or without AdSense you will be fine.
Thank you Onlinedude. I was beginning to worry that I had given the wrong impression. I was just reading about MFAs. I have no clue what they are, but the first 2 letters don't sound good. I'm certainly not one of them! I have written all of my own content. My aim is to have a quality site that will add value to women and the net. I do, however, want to make money from my site. I would post my site, but I think that is against the rules. There is so much information, it is hard to know the correct procedure. I know I need back links for traffic, yet hate to pay a directory if I will be rejected. I really appreciate your help, Onlinedude. Jackie
Some directories get sites submitted without Adsense, but with obvious gaps where the Adsense or other advertising will be. For them this is also a flag for a dodgy site. My approach is to consider the value of the content without the ads. If there's enough quality content, and the site is relevant and follows all the guidelines, it goes in. However, I do also take into account my first impressions of a site, and if it's plastered with advertising then these will inevitably be poorer. I don't think many directories will reject you for having one block of Adsense up per page. Think carefully though if you're considering having all three adblocks, because this is the usual pattern we see on all the MFA submissions. You may only have 10 seconds to make that initial impression before an editor decides whether or not to reject your site, so make sure your original content is visible above the fold and easy to access.
One additional question, If you make a paid directory submit, would the site still be rejected with adsense, or is it only free directory submissions that’s get easy rejected if adsense ? Thanks
That has to depend on the editor. But paid directories in general get a lot less spam to deal with, and therefore the editors will have longer to consider your submission carefully. If it's a directory that refunds on refusal, you can be sure they will look carefully and consider what kind of site you're submitting, Adsense or not. Even if they don't refund, you would hope they would take the time to consider your site rather than rejecting it out of hand for having Adsense on it. It would be bad business to do otherwise. It's not the Adsense alone that makes a site a MFA, it's the lack of content or usefulness.
