Adsense against "Traffic exchange systems"! What are these?

I once read that you'd be not allowed to participate in traffic exchange systems
if you'd like to use adsense. What is allowed and what not?
I guess you can use link exchange, but what is about automatic link exchanges like services, where a "link box" is displayed, generated by the link exchange server?
Is it allowed to use "autosurf" services?
    Thanks beforehand,

Link exchanges are fine as long as they aren't contextual. If you just put in a category and the links come from that category it's fine.

Autosurf services that artificially inflate traffic are frowned upon as far as I know.

Autosurfs aren't allowed. Autosurfs and "traffic exchanges" are the same basically. If you want an example of an autosurf, go to http://www.surfing4dollar.com
