Lately google has been giving advice and their advice seems to be adding more advertising on the site pages however I've experienced a higher CPM with single ads than with multiple ads. Any advice on the advice google is giving?
Are you talking about the optimization reports now on the reports page? I think you should do what works for you instead of an automated message...
Thanks it does make sense I'm certainly leaning towards that route but it does make me think about why they would give me advice that I've already tested without success...
glasglow, not only do the amount of ads you are using have an effect on clickthrough, but so does placement. It could be that when you place more than 1 ad block, you have to put both of them in non-ideal positions. It may also be that your users recognize they are ads with two distinct blocks. Whatever the reason, keep doing what works for you. Every Website is different, and Google's advice is very general anyway.
It really depends on the website you have. If your website has very long pages, it probably makes a lot of sense to put ads on the top and the bottom. If you're trying to cram three ads at the top of the page, it might not be the best move. try out different things to see what works for you.
Hi I received that advice from google as well. I believe it is true as myother sites have more than one placement and they are doing better. Pete
It that true? I was rationalizing fewer ad units with the exact opposite rationalization.. I was assuming a placement on a page would pay higher per click if they weren't competing with less advertisers.
I agree with you there totally.. They didn't tell me to empty it but it seems I read in their instructions to have as few as possible.. Sometimes it's certainly necessary I think to filter out those penny pinchers.
