I had an AdSense idea earlier, inspired by advertising I noticed on a website I happened to visit. The idea is to place a AdSense ad in a hovering and closeable div. I can't remember seeing this discussed before or seen it being used on any AdSense site, so I thought I'd bring it up to see what people thought. The concept is to place the AdSense code in an absolutely positioned div tag that hovers over the main content of the page. It also has a javascript powered close button/link on it to allow the visitor to get rid of it. I'm sure you've come across similar non-AdSense implementations of this technique. I have attached a sample HTML file and a gif for the ad to this post so that you can see a very basic example of what I mean. A proper implementation would include cookies to track if the ad had been shown this session etc. I've spent the afternoon going through the AdSense T&C and Program Policies trying to find something that might stop us using this technique. So far I haven't come up with anything concrete. I've listed the bits that would obviously relate to this technique below: No Google ad or Google search box may be displayed on any domain parking websites, pop-ups, pop-unders, or in any email. This could loosely be referred to as a pop-up I guess, though the term pop-up usually refers to a window Any AdSense ad code, search box code, or referral code must be pasted directly into Web pages without modification. AdSense participants are not allowed to alter any portion of the ad code or change the layout, behaviour, targeting, or delivery of ads for any reason. We're not altering any of the AdSense code but we may be altering their layout, behaviour and/or delivery. The whole of the Incentives section We could be "drawing undue attention to the ad" etc. I'm sure there are other sections that might stop us using this technique. These are just the main points I came up with. Also, I haven't emailed AdSense support about this and I'm pretty sure they would be against it but you never know. It's worth discussing at least. Let me know what you think.
there was a free forum hosting service that did this a few months ago. they got banned...and shut down their service.
