Adsense 101 - advice for beginners

After reading the "How much have you made from AdSense?" thread, I am pumped up to give it my best shot. I know that making $100,00+ is not typical or practical, so my goal to start would be $100 a month. Can some of you AdSense Jedi Masters out there toss out some suggestions for those of us starting from scratch? What works? What doesn't? Your help is greatly appreciated...

First we need good content on our sites which makes users visit our site or blog again and again . Try to use niche keywords in your blogpost as much as you can [ but not too much] . This will help Google to show good niche adds .

although im not a jedi master, i always stand firm on continual content barrages. i have outsourced them and it gives me the traffic i need. kidding aside, you can reach your goal eventually. its not a big deal if you follow the path.

Build a site. Add content on regular bases.

    Do some search engine optimization.

Try to improve your search results ranking.

Get as much traffic as you can as Traffic = $$$

In the last year I have gone from about $1 a day on adsense to close to $100 a day. This money now drives my other marketing areas and I do nothing to keep it going.

Find a niche that makes money. Create content people are actually looking for. If you can't write or create content outsource it. Quality content writers are worth the money they want.

Add content, build links, add content, build links....etc, etc.....

Within 6-9 months you will see good money coming in if you choose the right niche and content.

    good luck and go Celtics!!!

A great advice that I should have listened to when I started was to not rely solely on Adsense.

I have found that if you plan your business (website or blog) around adsense income and hungrily watch your adsense stats daily, adsense money will generally elude you.

If you instead plan around other monetization methods and making your site the best that it can be, yet have the maximum number of adsense units in the best possible spots, then you can make money hand over fist before you know it.

It's just like in life. People who covet money the most never seem to get enough of it, while people who couldn't care less about money seem to have all that they ever need and more.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the great input - I would love to make $100 a day. What's the consensus on the best blog to use - Blogger? Wordpress?

My suggestion is to find a niche that is profitable (use the Adwords keyword calculator to find out what the high bids are and weed out poor paying topics) and a niche that you would enjoy creating content for, not just today but in the long run. Plan on working on your site for years to come, rather than making something and leaving it behind, hoping it will turn into some golden-egg laying goose (you've got to feed and care for the goose to get those eggs).

Also, don't build your site for Adsense. While Google is certainly reliable when it comes to paying out and not looking to go anywhere any time soon, try to build a site that can support any advertising program.

Are those of you that are making decent money (let's say $1000+ a month) posting to more than one blog, or is your income strictly from one blog?
