Ads Pay Per Click Amount

It is said that the first ads block ( on top) is the one that gives you the most money, so my question is this: Will having a link unit above your first adsense block/ad decrease the value of it? Meaning that the ads within the link unit will have the higher revenue per click then the ads in the first block?

    Eg.

    TOP OF PAGE
Link Unit ( highest pay per click/revenue)

Adsense Block ( lower pay per click)

Adsense Block ( even lower pay per click)
    BOTTOM OF PAGE

    or

    TOP OF PAGE
Link Unit (No correlation between ad blocks and revenue)

Adsense Block ( highest pay per click)

Adsense Block ( lower pay per click)
    BOTTOM OF PAGE

What is true about this, what is not?

The first ad unit will contain the highest bidding ads. This makes complete sense.

The location of the link unit does not affect the ad units (what you call Adsense block).
However since many users will likely click on the link units, this will affect the number of clicks, and should affect the income.

I suggest you try it for a couple of days and see what happens

    Thanks a lot!
So what do you think about the overall use of the link units?
