    Just thought I'd open another thread about the same problem other people are having...

    It is happening to all sites in my account: tfbpanew

    For example on site http://beauty.alldayshops.com/

    Links are being displayed fine, but still the error is given and 0 weight in return.

    Can you please have a look?

    Thanks!

    Your server is returning this to the validator:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">

    </HEAD><BODY>

    OK, thanks for looking into it.

    But I don't understand why it is giving those errors...

    What is wrong with <TITLE>Makeup: Face, AllDayShops.com</TITLE>
    and <h1>AllDayShops.com - Browse Makeup: Face </h1>

    Or has it something to do with my ISP blocking the request from your server for some reason?

    <edit>
    just understood that the Title and H1 are just those on your page... oops...
    Still don't understand why it is giving your server that error though, as if you check manually it appears to be fine...

    Nothing is wrong with the title you wrote... what I copy/pasted is what your server is returning to the validator (exactly).

    Any idea why that is, as it worked fine for the last few months. To my knowledge nothing has changed on my server, at least not by me...

    Something changed... it's coming from your server, so I would ask whoever is in charge of it.

    This is the response from the helpdesk

    <quote>
    This security measure helps us block unauthorized access to our users domains
    and you can ask digitalpoint.com to add the following setting in their php.ini
    so their connection wont get blocked :

    ini_set('user_agent','Mozilla: (compatible; Windows XP)');

    for example to simulate windows xp browser.
    </quote>

    Is that possible?

    First helpdesk answer:
    <quote>
    We have installed mod_security on the server recently and it is the reason:

    [Tue Jan 3 07:56:08 2006] [error] [client 216.9.35.51] mod_security: Access denied with code 406. Pattern match "^$" at HEADER("USER-AGENT") [hostname "beauty.alldayshops.com"] [uri "/"]
    </quote>

    Sorry, it's not going to happen because it's not a Windows user. If your hosting company is blocking the requests you aren't going to be able to use the ad network is really what it comes down to.

    OK, fair enough.

    Didn't expect you to make the changes, just thought it wouldn't do any harm to ask anyway. :)

    Just received following response from the helpdesk.

    <quote>
    We do not require an operating system be mentioned in the header what-so-ever. We simply require some form of header, user-agent being sent along with the HTTP request, this would by-pass our rule in this case thus allowing you to include the file remotely and check its existance.

    Are you aware of how exactly it is checking the scripts existance?
    </quote>

    Can you please answer advice if the first is possible and how the periodic check works?

    Thanks.

    If it is possible to add some form of header, user-agent being sent along with the HTTP request.

    <edit>

    My server is responding with errors because digitalpoint.com is sending request to my server without header, user-agent. Therefore the mod_security script thinks it is an attack to my server and blocks the request.

    The helpdesk states that if the requests from digitalpoint.com uses header, user-agent, it won't get blocked.

    OK, I told them that and it may be possible for them to make an exception, but they want to know what exactly is being requested.

    I told them digitalpoint.com has to periodically check for a php script called ad_network_388.php

    The responded by asking how exactly digitalpoint.com is checking the scripts existance.

    Can you please tell me?

    It doesn't check a script... it grabs random pages from your site.

    Sorry to bother you again with this, but my hosting provider is only willing to make some changes if they fully understand why all those requests are made.

    Now they want to know how those pages are grabbed and what is been looked for. If possibly please be as specific as you can.

    Thanks again...

    It's looking to see if your pages are running ad network ads.

    OK, unfortunately the hosting provider is not willing/able to make adjustments to the security file.

    I have moved the sites to my other server a few days ago and the changes are reflected in the whois registry.

    Problem is that the same error is given...

    Could the reason be that my old IP is still cached on your server? If so is it possible to clear the cache or do I just have to wait some more.

    I would give it a day or two for your DNS to update.

    Sorry to say the problem still exists, even after changing hosts.

    Can you please tell me if it gives the exact same error and/or which IP adress is used?
