Ads not changing?

I'm seeing some rather strange results with:

    http://ads.digitalpoint.com/network.php?c=www.test.com&type=link

I was just playing with the code a little to filter out links to my own sites, so that the sites in my network don't link to each other. I thought I had it working then it started doing strange things.

All the ads returned are for digitalpoint

If I just pull up this URL in a browser and refresh a few times, everytime it returns an ad for DP?

Have I done something that would cause this to happen (blocked?)
Or is there a problem at DP?

*guess* because the ads aren't displayed on test.com

There doesn't seem to be a problem on the DP side. Judging by the fact that you were changing the code, I would look there first.

I don't get what the url you posted has to do with it.

I don't believe this is the problem, (but you could be correct :p)

if I use a real domain there, I get the same results. Both using my domains and using domains of others that seem to be using the network.

I'm sure in the past I have called up this URL and seen the ads rotating.
Do you get the ads rotating if you substitute your domain in there?

I cleared the .txt file after I had made some changes, and it started doing this.
I have taken out all the changes I made and re-copied the code in full from the DP site.

None of this seems to be related to the problem. It's DP that is continually returning ads for DP. My .txt file is filling up with DP ads.

Anyone else seeing this, or seen this before and knows what caused it?

Well several of us had to modify the coop ad network code to comply with servers that do not allow fopen remote calls, so a mod is ok in a sense.

Filter code is another issue I'm sure though and without the code we can't help.

I'm not the first to do this.

I remember reading a posting by T2DMan? that said Shawn had helped him with a hack that prevented showing his own ads on his other sites.

I just want to prevent cross linking across sites on the same IP.

How can it be a problem with the code? No code is running when I simply put up that URL in a browser. Shouldn't that URL show ads rotating?

Just to make sure - I re-copied the code exactly off the DP website. Same results

That url does the same thing when I substitute my site and my ads are running fine (if that helps)

Can someone let me know if they see ads rotating when they view the URL used to obtain new ads.

    'http://ads.digitalpoint.com/network.php?c=' . $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] . '&type=link'

I've tried substituting my domains and the domains of others that are showing DP ads. Same results - all I get is DP ads being returned.

If I'm the only one seeing this - then obviously I'm doing something wrong.
But if everyone else sees this.....

Humor me please - I need to get this working again, and now even with 100% DP code, it isn't working.

    sorry - missed your post.

Thanks, I'm obviously missing something here then...

I'm only running the DP code now - my .txt file is filling up with DP ads and nothing else - which actually makes sense as it's loading the ads from this URL.

    No idea what's going wrong.

I'm 99% sure I saw ads changing every refresh when I called up this URL in a browser before - when I started looking at how to filter my own sites out.

    Sorry to be a pain....

Could I possibly impose on someone to check their .txt and let me know if they are seeing lots of DP ads appended.

You said ads are working fine, but if you have a big .txt file it's possible you wouldn't notice (it appears to just choose ads randomly from the file)

Forget the cache and work with the dynamic array returned from the cache file/remote file call to eliminate your ads would be my approach.

I figured it would be best to prevent caching of my ads.
But hey - more than one way to do it.

    The problem is now....
I'm running dp code in it's original format.
    No mods
cut and paste from the website

I cleared out the .txt file before - as my ads were in it,
now the .txt file is filling up with dp ads - and only dp ads - no-one elses.

I'm sure I'm just doing something stupid- but can't figure it out..

All I want is to get the ads working correctly - as they were before.

I take it you're not seeing lots of dp ads in the .txt file ?

    This is most puzzling.

I'm quite sure I saw the ads rotating everytime I queried that URL.
And the results I'm seeing make sense given the results the URL returns now.

I brought up the URL - saw that all I needed to do was a check for my domain in the string returned, figured I would just prevent adding to the .txt file if it was one of my ads returned.

I was hoping someone would say - oh yeah - I'm seeing that too...
    (that would be too easy)

No you're right, I added a couple of sites to dp today and all I got was Dp's own ads.

    I'm glad you said that

I'm pulling my hair out here - trying to work out what on earth I could be doing wrong.

Hopefully Shawn will be able to see what is going on soon.
Don't *think* there is anything I can do from this end.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one...

when I run the code it's running from my server.
But when I test using the browser I'm doing it from the other side of the globe :p

It's all standard DP code (now) - and I'm seeing the .txt file on the server fill up with DP ads. And only DP ads displayed.
